I've just got in from work and turned on Live 8.

The crowd are SO SO SO QUIET!!!! And just standing there! No sort of atmosphere at all apart from a few claps. Rolling Eyes

What is going on?

Are they thinking "I wish The Big Call on ITV was on tonight...then I would have stayed at home!?" Laughing

Oh god look who's on now. Be thankful this isn't being broadcast on Channel 4, or else Jimmy Carr would have hosted the event!

They just showed the crowd in front of the BBC BIG Screen in Manchester, Wossy said it was Birmingham!

Dumbass!

Well Wossy earlier told viewers that a shot of the big screen in Birmingham was Manchester - and now he's gone and said that a shot of Manchester was Birmingham.... who's feeding him this duff info?!

Bit of a cock-up earlier on the interactive streams. The feed of the philadelphia concert comes complete with commercial breaks and the beeb showed about five minutes worth of ads before pulling the feed with a caption.

They also had an AOL dog.

Who is broadcasting this in the US - can't seem to find much out about it?

AOL are webcasting the concert streams, with MTV/VH1 turning around individual songs apparently.

ABC are showing stuff later in the evening in the US.

Sad that no network is showing it as an "Event" in the same way the BBC is. The BBC Two, BBC One, BBC Three and BBCi multiscreen stuff has been a real commitment to the event - and really good TV. (Another benefit of non-profit driven broadcasting IMHO)

I'm suprised by how much coverage the event is getting on the BBC actually. Regardless of the very good cause (and the fact it's not gonna make the blindest bit of difference), it is essentially a political protest and the BBC's continuous broadcast of it must surely be constued as an advocation of said political protest. Surely the beeb isn't in a position to do this? Discuss...

Can't say I'm impressed with the BBC's link ups but never mind. Great concerts! Annie Lennox - doesn't often make many public appearances but that version of 'Why' earlier was superb. Not to mention (Sir) Bob Geldof obviously - basically revamping his 'Don't Like Mondays' from Live Aid. Brilliant.

1 million people in Philladelphia! Shocked Fantastic.

I just really hope these G8 people take note of this! This is the 21st century for God sake!

Is it me, or are the crowd really lifeless? Rolling Eyes

The crowd seem to have a can't be bothered attitude - they may as well be walking around with Walkmans! Rolling Eyes It probably seems different because when you think of Live Aid at Wembley - it was a stadium hence there was also crowd seating space and it projected sound better. Thats my opinion anyway. Some audience boom mics may help.

they really are!

and I have to say, I know it's a live broadcast and understandably things go wrong/mics aren't on when they should be etc, some of the links have been done very poorly.

Such as cutting to Fern, halfway through an interview (like with Sir Paul), and then cutting back to the stage! Surely it would have been better to have Wossy say after the artist has finished "Fern caught up with.... this is what they had to say...." etc.

But overall, coverage has been good - good to see interactive too!

Half the time they look like they are trying to get the best pics with their camera phones!
A lot of them probably texted not expecting to win, won and couldn't sell their tickets on eBay!

Even Craig David managed to stir some cheers from the French crowd (!); I think if he performed at Hyde Park he would have been greeted with either silence or a load of bottles. Laughing
