Some observations about this new 14-part Dickens series "Little Dorrit" which started last night (Sunday) at 8.00pm on BBC1.
Episode 2 will be on Thursday night at 8.30pm.
Episode 3 will be on the following Wednesday at 8.00pm
Episode 4 will be on the following Thursday at 8.00pm.
No more new episodes on Sunday nights.
I would have thought the sort of viewer attracted to this style of drama would appreciate a regular slot and not have to chase it through the schedules.
Secondly, there were many people in the cast and a few who have been in other series like Sue Johnston from Brookside /The Royale Family, Emma Pierson from Hotel Babylon, even a preview of John Alderton.
So I would expect this audience to be more interested than normal in the casting credits at the end of the programme. Alas, these credits were scrolled up faster than you could say Dickens, plus they were all scrunched up so it needed a magnifying glass to read or a mammoth screen. There just seems to be no respect for the viewer anymore regardless.

Isn't this the same scheduling as for Bleak House. Run the first hour long episode on Sunday to capture the "costume drama" audience - but then run it as short 30 minute (soap-sized) blocks twice a week.

This works well with Dickens, as the books were originally published episodically, and were written to hold an audience between publications.

I thought it was the law that these costume period dramas have to be shown on Sunday nights. Just like its the law that big shops can only open for 6 hours to make sure people go to church rather than shop. Evil or Very Mad

Get BBC HD, they show the credits on all programmes clean and simple, as they should be.

You shouldn't have to subscribe to a new channel and buy a new set just to see credits.
