It’s reported that sales of the Little Britain DVD is currently the top sellers on Amazon with each series dominating the top 3 places and sales in total rising by 200,000%.

Surely this has had the opposite effect to what the BBC were intending. As they’re now making money (albeit the commercial arm) from the show it’s attempted to distance itself from, which portrays a much worse picture for them.

Quite, and I'm not sure I agree with the methodology of denying things ever existed because it has a chance of offending somebody.

Has White Chicks been removed from all platforms by any chance?

In normal times we quite often see Morris dancing groups with black faces.

I have never seen this.

It's a midland/Welsh border thing. If you go to a fair or similar in that area there'll often be a group of Morris dancers there with black faces

I still feel the situation opens up a Pandoras box. There aren't really any rules currently about what would cause a show to be removed and many a show could be considered offensive in some way so it ends up being subjective and basically 'who shouts loudest' and means arguably many shows could be removed. At the moment, it isn't particularly clear both a) who is the ultimate judge of whether certain content is offensive and b) how they determine that.

White Chicks was trending last night with people comparing it to Little Britain. And it's not hard for the discussion to stray into other seemingly safer material. Is the character 'Bella Lasagna' acceptable these days - in which case should we be banning Fireman Sam from airing? Given the sexual misconduct allegations in recent times against Louis C.K. and Aziz Anzari should any episodes of Parks & Recreation involving them no longer be shown/available (given Aziz is in most episodes there'd barely be any episodes left to air)? And Friends is a much loved sitcom but there could be a strong argument it was transphobic, sexist, homophobic etc so should it be removed? Given the whole Apu removal, should any Simpsons episodes involving Apu no longer be aired (in which case bye bye many a classic episode and classic gags like Steamed Hams)?

As a gay man with mental health issues, the way I view representation of both is that as long as there's a decent enough mix of representation of LGBT and those suffering mental health issues on TV shows I'm happy enough. I found the Daffyd Thomas sketches quite funny and are fine with some gay characters being flamboyant as long as there's also a share LGBT characters where their sexuality does not define their character and certainly we're in a better place now than a decade or so ago.
Similarly, mental health representation on TV has improved massively in recent times. That said at least from my POV in terms of modern day TV one of the more problematic TV shows is one like 13 Reasons Why which seems to almost glamourise suicide and basically ignores any guidance over how to depict mental health on TV.

Have to say too even by its usual low standards Twitter has been a proper **** this week (with JK Rowling deciding now is the perfect time to start what inevitably ends up being an ill-tempered debate about transgender individuals). And it's still only Wednesday.

I am looking forward to the Guardian's inevitable CiF article about this which like many a Guardian CiF will clumsily stick its oar in and misread the mood spectacularly. Some of the replies BTL on those articles if they allow comments are usually particularly fun.
The 'Fleabag' articles are a particular classic example of the genre - there's many a Guardian article almost cultishly acting as if TV didn't exist before Fleabag and then many bemused readers BTL.

The Ant and Dec one is interesting, and arguably different from the other examples that we have discussed. The prime motivation was to disguise their appearance rather than to generate humour by taking the piss out of a minority.

The sad irony is that the offending disguises are actually the most convincing Undercovers they've ever done.

Not sure I agree. From memory, the accents were very exaggerated and very much playing up for laughs. The Japanese Girls on the set of Corrie was practically the same stereotype as Walliams and Lucas did and got panned for in Come Fly With Me. If it was simply about disguise, they wouldn't have had to put on the voices as well, plenty of BAME people born in Britain. Regardless of motivation, the execution was clumsy - if motivation enough was an excuse, they would have continued to do it

For the umpteenth time, NO ONE is denying Little Britain every existed. The BBC is NOT wiping it from its archive. They're just choosing not to broadcast it due to changing attitudes. It's something that has happened for decades.

And no, White Chicks hasn't been removed. Again, as I've said numerous times, there is a reason why there are some things off limits when it comes to black people but not white people. Years of repression for one.

The 'White Chicks' example is pure whataboutism, but it doesn't mean that it can't be racially offensive (I've not seen it).

White Chicks should be removed for being a terrible film.
