Most people whinge about ITV for no reason. They are the best at what they do - they get better ratings and have more hit programmes than any other channel in the UK.

People here would rather they went back to a twee little system of regional stations, all managed seperately, despite the fact that this would be at an enormous cost and would be of no actual benefit.

I agree with that entirely.

Shock horror - hold the front page...... Wink

My dislike about ITV1?

One word... and one word only...

BLOODY CARLTON!

That's two words.

LOL! Was wondering how long it would take for someone to spot that one!

As compared with BBC1:

-There's more soaps on BBC1 than ITV1
-Regional output is still far less than ITV1,
-Fame Acadamy, euughhh...

- BBC One only have 1 soap in their primetime schedule - ITV1 have got 3 haven't they? (Emmerdale, Corrie, The Bill?)
- And will it get worse in the future if there is only one company own ITV? Can you say Carlton/Granada will give a stuff what goes on in Cornwall (for instance)?
- Nothing wrong with Fame Academy - it's a far better show in principle than Pop Idol

BBC devote 50 minutes a day to Neighbours, 30 minutes a day to Doctors. 30 minutes x 4 days a week Eastenders.2 hours Eastenders omnibus on Sundays.

Emmerdale 30 minutes a day, Corrie 5 x 30 a week.

And if you're classing the Bill as a soap, then the same goes for Holby City and Casualty.

So, overall BBC are devoting much more of their schedules to soap, and one of them is an import and 2 hours of repeats. At least ITV are investing in original homegrown drama's.

My original post which provoked this argument about soap time designation was in reference to primetime .

Exactly I was talking about primetime - so if BBC One is 2hrs and ITV1 is 5hrs! Even the ITC agree, if you have a root round on their site there is a statement about it somewhere.

(And you only have to look at the amount of repeats there are on ITV2 of the soaps! Shocked anyway thats not what we're talking about!)

Perhaps ITV do create more drama, but the BBC produce better documentaries, comedy, nature programming, arts, childrens, sport coverage, music - only to mention a few things!

Anyway I think Canterbury Tales is going to far better than alot of recent ITV shows!

The BBC really need to sort out primetime on BBC1. It's very rare that they offer a better alternative to ITV1, and EastEnders has been very poor this year - worse than Crossroads at time.

It should get better, we are only a few days into the new autumn season after all! Smile

Well that's were they should be, allowing ITV to put out other programming during daytime. I really can't see a place in the schedule any more for a 2 hour omnibus of Eastenders every Sunday Rolling Eyes

Where else is it going to go then? Always seems to be enough space in the schedule to be honest!

You have to question why in this day and age, with VCR's and repeats on BBC3, why BBC One have to have a 2 hour repeat of Eastenders at all every Sunday afternoon.
