(apart from some overseas sales where I believe they recognised that Granada is a better=known name than ITV?)

They renamed that ITV Global a while back. I think they operate a channel under the Granada name somewhere in the world though.

I was more put off by the inclusion of Hale and Pace Wink

There's a report coming up about the removal of the sign on Granada Reports.

They should repair the sign, it's iconic, and without it, the Granada building just looks like an ugly office building

Interesting point about seeing if the letters can be repaired on that report (although I do suspect that might be quietly forgotten about!). Also it's quite clear they came down in one piece (or nine pieces!) so it would be a crying shame it they didn't end up in a museum somewhere in Manchester. I'm still amazed the perspex tube outside Tyne Tees wasn't retained, such is it's place in popular culture.

I think they got the tone exactly right in that report - forget nostalgia and ITV-bashing, it's as much part of the Manchester skyline as the Hollywood sign over the pond, so should somehow be kept.

According to ATV Network, a member of Granada staff has said “The removal of the iconic lettering is not a permanent action. We can assure you that the signage will be restored to its rightful position once it has been cleaned up and repaired.”

Let's wait and see then... although the bit about workers "taking a look at the other signs around the building" sounded rather ominous! Shocked

Well don't worry - there will be ITV signs all over the place to replace them before the years out! Laughing

Although the right thing to do is to obvioulsy replace the sign - I would be surprised if ITV did. Think of it this way, If your business had a main brand ( ITV) and had a sort of now non exsistent brand ( Granada) would you want to replace that sign if you had the chance to get red of it?

Very true. It's possible though they were surprised by the reaction to it being taken down though (which has in part been fuelled by Granada Reports themselves by filming it coming down and putting out a report about it!). And unless they get scrubbing you've got a "GRANADA TV" stained roof-top, which looks worse than what was there before (not that BBC North West have ever been particularly bothered about that though...)

"Labelscars" are pretty easy to remove - just involves steam cleaning the relevant area.
