The lights go out on Granada Studios...

Okay the thread title is a tad misleading, but I guess it's pres related, but due to "health and safety" the famous neon signs located on top of Granada's Manchester Studios have been removed today, after 55 years in service...

At least they've had the decency to let people know, not like the Chevron 'falling off' Kirkstall Rd Studios....

Could have put a little more imagination into the excuse. I'm only surprised it took them so long to get round to it, which led me to believe it was somehow protected. Obviously not.

How long before an application for permission to install one or two 'illuminated ITV logos' is submitted?

That wouldn't surprise me, as they have two massive 3D ITV logos on the walls by the Car Park entrance.

When I read this I thought the studios were closing! Although I kind of expect that to happen in a few years with the rumours that Corrie is moving to Salford Quays.

They wont put a red logo back up I bet, just the new [itv] blue logo if anything. All they need to do now is change the name of the news and that is bye bye Granada North West

Does the other red 'Granada TV' sign still survive by the vehicle access?

Also how about the 'Granada Television' lettering over the old reception entrance?

Health & Safety my arse. Funny how ITV celebrated 50 years back in 2005 yet they are eradicating all evidence of their past

Did think whilst watching Road to Coronation St, how long it would be before they pulled the sign down. Next I think they should pull off the lettering at BBC TV Centre, somebody could get hit on the head by a large 'B'.

I am sad to hear that the famous sign is coming down. I agree that it seems likely they will soon put up an "ITV" sign. I sadly never saw the sign lit up. I live in the West Midlands and I haven't been to Manchester much at night so I have really missed out on seeing the neon-lit "Granada TV".

To play devil's advocate for a moment, how many other businesses still display a former name on the front of their building?



I doubt they will put an ITV logo up as they would have done that at the same time as all the other logos were put up on all ITV's other buildings a few years ago.

Can you still read Granada TV in the dirt of the building, like you can still see the old BBC North West 'NW' device on the front of the BBC Manchester building?
