The 'sad trekkie' sister started watching it, but has given up, even though she's a fan of the UK version.

I watched the first episode, OK I Guess.

The Problem is the way that USTV is set out, shows like this just wont be understood over the pond, the same way as SNL and Late Night chat shows, won't be understood here, US Networks have to realize that.
