Didn't realise there was a new X Factor logo.

Didn't realise there was a new X Factor logo.

Neither did I. Can we have the before / after for comparisons ?

Has anyone seen that DVD in the wild? Maybe the wrong logo did get picked up and changed before the cover was mass produced. Here is another version without the ITV[1] logo or the 'series one' text and with different quotes, different rating and a Channel 4/4DVD logo.

The old one uses Gill Sans, and the new one uses Eurostile.

How about this for a beautiful branding fail - publicity cards for a programme that was on 1992-3 with the 1970s BBC1 logo
*

Maybe stretching things a little, but AFAIK the BBC corporate logo didn't officially change until 1991, even though the coloured with lines version was being used for some purposes from 1988 (and appeared in end credits from 1990). Similarly, the 1960's 'BBC tv' symbol was still the official blanket logo for BBC Television until the late 80's even though it wasn't used on screen after 1971 (awaits someone finding some random slide from later on showing it still being used), it was outmoded but not officially retired. It is possible that the old BBC1 logo faired similarly, still being officially available for use until the 1991 globe despite not having been used on screen since the mid-70's.

It is (just about) conceivable that the publicity card was designed 12/18 months in advanced of the programme's debut and so the logo was still 'correct' at the time - which perhaps is where all of these 'dodgy branding' examples came from; they were current when designed and have just been saved up and used now.

My favourite use of all 'dodgy branding' though has to be the BBC-branded Cassettes and VHS tapes, which into the 2000's were still being produced new with the old BBC logo and they also had the 1988 BBC Sport Globe on them for no obvious reason. It was only during the final couple of years of BBC-branded media that you could get versions with the 1997 logo on them.

No, I found it on Twitter.

Here is a comparison of The X Factor logos. They are quite different when you look at the detail:

I'm sure I've seen things where they used to use the old blue itv logo which at that stage was only used as a corporate logo. Probably as these things are arranged by a agency working for a production company, therefore nothing to do with ITV themselves.

We had a presentation at work from a company who produces adverts, and as an example of daytime spots they used a This Morning logo from many looks previous with a picture of Phil and Fern. The ITV2 logo was the yellow and black one from around 2003.

I had a VHS of The Young Ones that was a rerelease from the mid 1990's, with Cut Price Comedy logo and slanted BBC logo on the box leaf, the 1997 BBC logo on the tape label and the 1980's striped BBC Video as the ident on the tape.

I've got a couple of Channel 4 DVD's somewhere that have the 2005 logo on the cover, yet on the disc the ident and everything else is from the square era.

Not about the branding, but with the DVD's how come they have different age ratings on the same DVD? One is 12 and the other is 15.

Isn't one of them the BBFC rating, and the hexagonal rating is the Irish Film Censor's Office?
