BBC 2 did explore airing more later than the other two channels, especially on a Saturday where they launched the "Midnight Movie".

BBC 2 realised they had a lot of unused hours available to them during the restricted daily hours era, and in August 1966 they created the Saturday Midnight Movie slot, with a late night movie every week on a Saturday.

The Midnight Movie never started at Midnight, but always aired through the midnight hour, and for those who could get BBC 2 they provided a good late night choice, as BBC1 would be off air around 11.30pm and ITV would usually not stray past 12.00am.
