Considering that the live director is obviously working to a prepared shot list (witness the exact same cuts being used for the winners' reprise that are used for the original performance), it really is incredibly stupid not to be showing the stage at all when Sam and Mark and their army of backing dancers do what was (judging by the audience reaction) their spectacular "costume change" move. They knew it was coming, they'd prepared and rehearsed, and for several seconds before and after the crucial moment we were shown some anonymous audience member instead. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Also fantastically stupid is having a pre-recorded sequence about the Morecambe and Wise "making breakfast" routine, and showing the clips cropped to 16:9. In particular the grapefruit-chopping sequence, which is significantly different in the 16:9 crop... in that it doesn't feature any grapefruit. Now that's what I call blithering incompetence!

Did anyone notice that the programme turned into BBC News channel for a split second? (I was watching through iPlayer's BBC1 live feed)

With regards to the BBC News Channel blip, I had noticed this on a couple of occasions in the past fortnight on BBC One's live feed. One was over the ten o clock news, but suddenly the news ticker popped on then went away again after 3/4 seconds. The other was some other show, but I can't remember when. I had just assumed it was a mistake with the news and forgot about it. Interesting to see though it is happening. (Sorry for going off-topic)

Although this is one dance reality show on the BBC which is actually very watchable - as unlike the rest it doesn't take itself seriously at all.

The second show though wasn't a patch on the first - there were 3 or 4 routines in the first which could have made the final, whilst the two put through from last night were mediocre at best.
