And the titles are the best bit.

They even wrote special lyrics for the end credits theme tune.

BTW, I thought shows weren't supposed to play music with lyrics over end credits nowadays because of the ECP?

A game of shame. A show of woe. A bit of... well, you get the idea with that.

It's also a horribly derivative programme, not only very obviously trading on Len's Strictly profile, but also the Strictly-related celebrity guests (Anton and Ore tonight). I noticed Len even borrowing a Brucie catchphrase tonight - "Didn't they do well?". Not sure if the latter was deliberate.

If Len Goodman wasn't intending to retire, he really should have just stuck it out on Strictly.

Saw this for the first time tonight. It was ok, it reminded me of Catchphrase mixed with Give Us A Clue. The badly dubbed audience track kind of ruined it for me as it gave away that it wasn't recorded in front of an audience.

Agree about the canned audience, I wonder if it would be different if recorded with a live audience?

I like Len, I like the idea but... it is like we have gone back to 1975 in a parallel universe with Len Goodman badly playing the role of Bruce Forsyth! The whole programme seems to be led by Len blatantly squinting to read an autocue and trying to be witty with it. It's a skill that not many people can pull off and Len certainly can't.

I must admit, I thought this was just Summer fodder but with the fact an Xmas special and series 2 is already in production, it seems to me like some BBC exec has seen Catchphrase work for ITV and thought they'd be safe with a similar format capturing Strictly popularity with old Len being the new Roy Walker.

Partners In Rhyme will almost certainly be produced in intensive recording blocks (e.g. at least 2 episodes recorded per day for around 5 consecutive days, or similar), and probably in the daytime (which is better, if Len happens to be more of a lark than an owl). So, it will have only taken a week or two out of Len's year. And it was presumably recorded in the spring/early summer.

That's a very different work schedule from having to be available every single Saturday night for umpteen weeks, during the autumn/winter.

There's also a massive difference between the pressure of being on live television (and in front of a live studio audience), versus doing something pre-recorded (and with no studio audience). Plenty of room for re-takes etc.

When I'm in my 70s, I doubt that I'll be wanting to do anything that resembles the pattern of the Strictly schedule/workload.

It was filmed in front of an audience...

The audience sounded very badly edited. When the contestant was talking of her work she does for charity, the audience were clapping over the top of her speaking.
Put The Telly On and UBox gave kudos

I was going to say, excessive editing can give the impression of a canned audience. They might also "enhance" audience sound with the canned stuff. It's a cheap and nasty way to cover clunky edits.

No real need to use 'canned' stuff - you just use some from somewhere else in the recording (or the warm up...)

The contestants on last night's edition seemed like fakes / actors. I'm sure they weren't but that's how they came across - especially the bloke.

I do wonder about the intelligence of programme makers of today that come up with rubbish shows like this,, its the same with Bradley Walsh, who has gone from an enjoyable prog like the Chase, to cash strapped rubbish show
