Just watched back a few of the old Legal & General weather sponsors on TV Ark & saw one for Carlton (London), which I don't remember, although remember LWT's version quite well. Just wondering if anyone knew which regions did & didn't use the sponsors, what year they were introduced & what year were they withdrawn?

EDIT: I know that Anglia, Carlton London, Granada, HTV West & Wales, LWT & Yorkshire used them, did anyone else

Embarassed Forgot to put Central in that list Smile

Was Thames Weather ever sponsored by Legal & General? I though they may have been but I can't fully recall TBH.

From what I've seen online, every Region had Legal & General, except for Thames, Scottish and Channel. Although I'm quite surprised the 1993 stations opted for the Sponsorship, although the deal had ended by late 1994.

Merdian used them as well, interesting, I shall have to look out for that one, thought TVS & TSW may have done at one point.

Thanks for the info, I wonder why Scottish & Channel wasn't sponsored by L&G, I imagine Thames wasn't sponsored by them because the sponsorship (I presume) came about after the 1991 franchise battle?

Interesting to hear that Carlton, Merdian & Westcountry used them though, especially considering, as you mentioned, they campaign came to an end in 1994.

Again only from what I've seen online, but Thames had Norwich Union as sponsor and Scottish had Kwik Fit sponsoring theirs, which I think lasted a while.

UTV used the Legal and General sponsor stings leading into the weather, but only until the summer of 1992 - while I knew the sponsor bumpers were used in other regions, I didn't know until a few years ago the sponsorship lasted in other regions until around 1994.

Out of interest, apart from TV Ark, is there anywhere else that has these? I've looked on You Tube but can't really find anything relating to the Legal & General sponsors.

I think Tyne Tees were the same -- they started in 1991 and ended in the summer of 1992 I believe.

Tyne Tees November 1991 (with L&G Sponsor): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK3rqi7Pc7Y&feature=related

Tyne Tees August 1993 (unsponsored): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqD8rfoJJys

Tyne Tees Autumn 1992 (unsponsored sting on page): http://www.transdiffusion.org/tmc/cityroad/news/weather1.php

Tyne Tees definitely ended the L&G sponsorship before October 1992 (when the new logo came in).

Thanks for the links, funny how Tyne Tees dropped L&G when they changed their logo, yet HTV continued with the sponsorship after the logo had been changed.

If they were introduced in 1991 then that explains why Thames didn't have them, IIRC once they learnt that they had lost their franchise didn't they virtually drop the ITV 1989 branding almost immediately with the only used of the IT* logo by Thames being on their endcap.

I presume Channel wasn't sponsored by them because L&G weren't in the Channel Islands at the time (again I'm only speculating), can't think of a reason why Scottish wasn't sponsored by them.

I'm rather interested in seeing Meridian & Westcountry's versions, as I say I was surprised to see Carlton London using them.
