Yes well done ITV for attracting so many brainless idiots willing to sit through the turgidity that are soaps :S

Just out of interest, when was the last time you watched Coro?

Coro is probably the show that attracts the widest-ranging audience, hence its consistently high viewing-figures.

Coro isn't completely brainless; it contains some of the best and wittiest writing on TV, as well as intelligent acting. It gets the balance of drama and humour just right. In my opinion, these factors set Coro apart from the funereal EE or pantomime-esque Emmerdale .

Calling people who watch Coro "brainless idiots" is unfair, and makes you come across as a snob and a misery-- we all have different tastes. Coro often gets over 50% share (rare for any programme these days), so it can't be that bad for "turgid" programme.

So lighten up, and give Coro a go. You never know, you might even enjoy it Wink

It's fair comment, but I'd be inclined to label those who jump from soap to soap each night as brainless in all honesty.

They may have been PhD material initially, but a couple of weeks of 3 hours of soap a night is enough to turn the best brains to mush.

Nobody asked for Tuesdays.

No wonder you posted the results. Corrie wasn't on. Laughing

I love the way our ITV1 Brigade goes deadly quiet when BBC1 rates top.

They were only top because Corrie wasnt on of course. Had Corrie been on they would have wiped the floor with the BBC.

Tuesday nights on ITV1 are abysmal IMO, so it wouldn't surprise me that the rating on BBC1 are much higher.

Well as it happens, I didn't want to mention last night's ratings but as you've asked

ITV1's Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards featuring a phalanx of stars including Jude Law and the Beckhams attracted 5.5 million viewers last night. The awards, hosted by Carol Vorderman, picked up an audience share of 25% over 90 minutes from 9pm, according to unofficial overnights.

BBC1 couldn't compete, with the final episode of drama The Amazing Mrs Pritchard attracting 3.5 million viewers and a 15% share in the 9pm hour, while the 10pm news also attracted 3.5 million and a 17% share.

Well done to ITV - Whilst I feel strongly that presentation on the channel has lost it's way, it just shows that with the right programmes, ITV still can do it.

Afterlife, Prime Suspect, Touch of Frost, Bon Voyage, just a few superb programmes that would make fans of the "old ITV" proud.

If only the over-dependence on soaps, and the predictable daytime schedules can be reviewed, programme-wise, ITV could look really good again.

Combine it with regional names appearing on idents, promotion of local programming, and more current affairs, and ITV could really start to shine again.

The frustration for me is that it seems such easy steps to put ITV back where it belongs. Cost cutting and the short-term hunger for viewers do not save a business - you have to spend a little and take a few risks.

Maybe this should just be renamed "The Ratings Thread".

The consolidated ratings are in from BARB for w/c 29/10/06 and further highlight the void between Corrie and EE at the moment. I'm not sure I remember the gap being this wide for a long time.
