I've seen the latest ad for the BK Whopper a few times now, and can't help thinking the voice over sounds very familiar indeed,
but I wasn't sure why. That was until I tuned into ITV4 to watch "The Late Show With David Letterman" tonight, and then I
realised ... it's Alan Kalter, Dave's (lunatic) announcer! Or at least someone that sounds very much like him.

If that really is "Big Red" from the Late Show ... how did he manage to get a voiceover gig in an advert on British televison?

And it's somehow ironic that Letterman's announcer gets a v/o job that get's his voice heard in prime time on most of our
major commercial TV channels (as well as a few minor ones) yet ITV4 still put Dave's show on in ridiculous timeslots!

Because the BK adverts are US made with variants for different countries. Here they change the $1 to £1 etc...... in most of Europe its euro's etc... whilst for Australia they have to do a bit more variant workage as its called Hungry Jacks!!!!!

Its just like when they make the programme promo's in states for their affiliate stations and each promo has the actors mentionming the stations name. Its actually started happening here with the US programmes on Sky1 - Keifer Sutherland announcing 24 for Sky1.

There was an Ice Age promo recently with one of the characters saying "Ice Age, only on ITV1"

Perhaps the biggest use of US stars promoting shows has been undertaken by five, with the main cast of House, CSI: Vegas, Miami & NY and Greys Anatomy & Criminal Minds coming soon.

BK's still nicer than Wimpy where you enjoy your food with a liberal sprinkling of fag ash, as they still allow smoking in there! Must be the only fast food chain that still does, I certinally haven't been into a branch of McDs, KFC or BK that has for at least a decade (not that I've been into a branch of wimpy, as you see the ashtrays and people puffing away through the window and it's more than enough to put me off going in ).

To this day, it's remained a mystery to me why anyone would want to call their business/brand "Wimpy" - did they not consider word association? I think BK were smarter in that respect!

Mr Wimpy was a hamburger munching character from the Popeye cartoons dating from the 1930s.

To many, the name Wimpy was associated with the hamburger man.
