Question:

Why were the summer alternatives to Live and Kicking and Going Live all invariably crap? 8:15 From Manchester, Fully Booked, Parallel 9, FBi, they were all useless!

FBi is the only really **** e one in that, Parallel 9 was good at the time, and Fully Booked remained good, 8:15 from Manchester, I semi remember that it was alright, but not as good as the other two.

I can remember 8:15 and thereon- nothign before. I used to love paralell 9. I recentally uncovered some work i did in junior school when i was about 8 and It was a picture I drew of the paralell 9 cast! I loved L&K the best era was the zoe+Jamie era with the backup acts being the leprichauns, Mr Blobby and those 3 blokes who appeared as the men in trousers, teachers in a teacher sketch and pretended to be a band from the 60s. In Fact the episode of L&K I want to get a copy of (though I will need a huge amount of money- I know what the BBC charge and access to the archives which means I doubt I will ever get anothe copy. I wish I hadnt wiped it) had a sketch which featured an episode of L&K which was supposedally from 1963 and featured a supposedally yound Zoe and Jamie and an interview with the alleged band.

No-one has mentioned the Manchester summer show - UP2U. It was presented by Anthea Turner and Tony 'Laters' Dortie (who also did a stint presenting Top of the Pops, the same time as Femi 'Now a CNN weather presenter' Oke presented it)

UP2U famously blew up Anthea Turner at the royal tournament. She stars in the BBC safety video in the 'how not to stage an oB with explosives and motorcycles safely' section.

I seem to also remember that it had a BBC Micro Domesday machine which let them track one of their OBs on map?

Personally I always liked Going Live - it was a big improvement on Saturday Superstore. Not sure Live and Kicking improved on Going Live that much. Trev and Simon were great on Going Live (Though they were replaced by 'The Two Aunties' for one series... They weren't quite so good)

Going Live - THE definitive Saturday Morning show! There were none better! I believe Trev and Simon's replacements were called Nick Ball and James Hickish - they were diabolical!

That's them - I was relieved when Trev and Simon returned.

I still have fond memories of Moon Monkey and Singing Corner.

On the last L&K at the very begginning they had old clips of the presenters being introduced. The one with Andi and Emma featured Trev and Simon. They were dressed as town criers (spelling) and the dialogue went like this.

TREV 'And now the presenters of Live and Kicking. Emma Forbes..'

SIMON 'And......i Peters'

That was so funny i just burst out laughing. That what saturday mornings need comedy. Any one remember the Drycleaning sketch 'We don't do douvets'.

Can anyone tell me if Paula Danziger, the book reviewer was mentioned at all?

Was the old phone number '0818 118181'? I remember the jingle, and the number was something like that. Also, the original titles ruled!!

Heh, yeah, i remember it was origionally 081 811 8181 and then a season after that a number change made it 0181 811 8181.
That jingle was one of the things i loved about Saturday mornings, until they did the grungy version (urgh).

L&K should have died after Zoe and Jamie, but even then, Andi and Emma were the best!

One of the funniest sketchs has to be Trev and Simon in the Drycleaners (we don't do duvets!) - I always found that so funny!

Men in Trousers was the realisation that either
a) I was no longer a kid, and thats why it wasn't funny
or
b) it was crap

But of course, I then found out about Friday Nights, oh glorious alcohol (ahem).

The Departure of Trev and Simon was IMHO a huge loss to Saturday Mornings. I still think the old L&K would kick SM:TV's ass!

Oh yes I remember Andi Peters saying constanly in the same episode 'Remember,as from next week our number won't be 081 811 8181,it will have changed to 0 1 81 811 8181.
There was a sort of quiz in that episode too,and one of the questions was 'What number will be added to the Live And Kicking from Monday?'

Remember 'Love time' or something where everyone including the production team hugged each other?

I've got a Live and Kicking BOOK from 1996 actually-showed Saturday morning telly from 1976-1996. Printed before the Jamie-Zoe era but after Andi's last show!
