As a trainee designer  i study this sort of thing, so i'm not just a raving loon.
I personally think your designs are brilliant . I never cease to be impressed with your various mocks etc. On my old 386 computer (and pre-this forum I might say) I also used to 'replicate' idents I had enjoyed, BBC, Sky etc.

I suppose the 'creative' part is where you can come up with your own unique logos and designs.

I sincerely hope you pursue this as a career choice.

You should probably consider this compliment as your Christmas gift. I'm not known for dishing them out.

thank you...

my designs and mocks are mearly just experiments, but i have very rearly been in the position to design original files. I did design some stuff for the KNEWS family of channels but thats it.

Personal comments about design agencies are fine the one thing i disagree with is personally slagging them off without valid reasons why

so i hope my contribution to this thread have helped with the theoretical and practical arguments for my opinions

Think about it people. If a tv company (say, carlton) doesn't want a 'live action' ident, there's a limit to what lambie nairn can do. Look closely at the idents on the last page - they are all computer graphics, they all have a black background, and they all have shapes/patterns moving, rotating or flitting about the screen. Those are the only similarities, the logos are different and placed in different places around the screen, they use different shapes, colours and sizes - everything else is different! It is a huge generalisation in saying that they are the same. Bye the way, mdta, I also think your designs are brilliant and hopefully one day we will see them on-screen!

<CREEPS BACK IN>

I'm not disputing that LN makes good idents, it's just that the current ones that they do are too simular. In my opinion, if all companies are going to go to LN, there should be lots of different styles.  I know that this may be the fault of the TV companies as well.

Anyway, here is my idea for Thames:

and I know it's a mock and should really go in the mock forum, but it's relevant to this thread.

Why should they use a skyline? They no longer serve a region, and would want to distance themselves from the past (being a ITV regional provider - i'm not saying they don't want to be again), but at the moment they are just a production company.
