The show was produced by Granada Television. Since its cancellation, it has been the subject of persistent rumours of a revival on the BBC. In April 2005, it was widely reported that the BBC would be going ahead with a revival. However the source of this story turned out to be a misinterpretation of comments by Wayne Garvie, head of BBC's Entertainment Group (and previously the last producer on The Krypton Factor) naming it as the next "TV gem" that should be revived. The BBC does not at present have any plans to revive the show.

I wondered why the revival talk had quietened.

A real shame a comeback isn't an immediate proposition given the dross served up most days on ITV.

Watching the Detectives, Perseverance and other associated trash makes me look back appreciatively at just how good Krypton Factor was.

It's great to see the reruns of that on Challenge, along with the Bullseye reruns.

I think Bullseye definietely requires a comeback, as does Man O Man.

Why? It was never that good in the first place.

I was told by a very reliable source that if the Bullseye special does well ITV will consider bringing it back in 2006!

Yes but it won't be the same without Jim Bowen, Tony Green and a speedboat/caravan.

EDIT: And the popularity of the Challenge reruns should tell 'em something! So great to see Challenge reshowing them.

Agreed, without Jim Bowen et al the show might as well not bother coming back. Just look at how rubbish Catchphrase was when Roy Walker left. I bet watching the special in September with Ant and Dec of all people will prove this point quite nicely.

I just hope the prizes are still really s**t!

Jim Bowen won't be taking part I don't think!

I do think ITV need to bring back a couple of old quizzes as they haven't really made any decent ones since WWTBAM.

Family Fortunes worked well, so did Play Your Cards Right. It does make me wonder if the only reason they dumped them were that the rights cost to much?

The ratings for Family Fortunes took a decline over a few years, ITV decided to keep the show, but like Catchphrase, Wheel Of Fortune and The People Versus, they decided to make into a Daytime show, with fewer prizes and no audience (no pun intended), Les Dennis apparently objected to this, he quit the show, they brought in Andy Collins (Yes we all know who he is!) the ratings suffered and his version of FF only lasted a series, which to an extent also helped Central to close down at Nottingham.

Brucie and ITV haven't had a good relationship over the last 5 years or so, he didn't get on well with the former head David Liddiment, who moved the Price Is Right to a Saturday graveyard slot, which Brucie wasn't pleased with at all, though apparently they made up and Play Your Cards Right came back in 2002/3, though this was shifted all over the place, presume ratings declined, so the axe fell, but this was also the time when Brucie was heading back to the BBC.

ITV should revive some classics, it's worked massively well for the Beeb so maybe ITV should take a leaf out of their book.

IMHO having a good presenter really keep the show running.

Les Dennis did well when he took over from the previous presenter (not sure who it was, was it Bob Monkhouse?) but Les' replacement didn't

Same with Roy Walker when he left Catchphrase both Nick Wier & Mark Curry weren't ideal replacements

Wipeout I think is an example where the replacement presenter was better. IMHO Bob Monkhouse was 100 times better than Paul Daniels at presenting that show
