The 3 main questions everyone is missing out on here is:-

1. Will the assault course be filmed differently this year with all 4 contestants racing together? And where will it be filmed?
2. Is the flight simulator returning this year?
3. Will it be on at a more convienient time slot instead of being up against Eastenders? Such as 7.30pm on a Wednesday or 7.00pm on a Sunday?

I did ask Q1, but in a poor fashion! ""where is the course for this challenge round? ""

1) Remains to be seen, and the previous series assault course was in Yorkshire. There's a "guide" to it here: http://www.adrenalinnylimited.co.uk/krypton_factor.htm and I'd be surprised if it's going to move from Yorkshire as it's a major advertising point.

2) I very much doubt it will ever feature again on Krypton. The Response round when it first occurred in the original run was unique. Today you can go down to Game and buy a copy of Flight Simulator, therefore it's not unique any longer and it's possible that every contestant has either tried it or owns a copy of it. Not quite sure how you can do something unique like the original Response round since modern day games are so realistic and sophisticated now.

3) Remains to be seen. Wednesday night was effectively cleared for football, so Corrie and The Bill ended up on Thursday. Harry Hill currently has 6:45pm-7:15pm on Sunday, the show's running until March and when X Factor isn't on, don't ITV like to fill Sunday night up with drama like Heartbeat and friends? Thursday 7:30 is probably "the" slot for it again, as if it was really getting creamed by EastEnders I dare say it wouldn't have been recommissioned for a second series. Didn't that used to be a regional slot?

Bit of a no brainer for ITV to bring it back, given that the programme is entirely advertiser funded by sponsor, Sage.

It got decent enough figures up against Eastenders too, in an otherwise dead slot.

I feel Thursday at 7.30pm is really letting it down - it needs a much better slot than this - possible slots could be:-

Sunday at 7.30pm - Harry Hill could be on before it at 7.00pm
Tuesday at 8.00pm
Wednesday at 7.30pm
(Thursday at 7.30pm)
or on a Saturday but its never been on a Saturday and probably won't feel right there...

Anyway, hope someone posts photos of the studio etc as per last year so we can see if anythings changed etc...

Problems with many of those suggestions. It's probably best where it is.

Sunday is Dancing on Ice territory.

Tuesday - what would they pair it with to fill the hour ?

Wednesday - Football.

If it's the same course they should film it like they did the final - one at a time. That seemed to work much better than in pairs.

Personally I think it's fine where it was as there is a sizeable audience who don't plan their viewing around EastEnders - but as you mention Sunday that wouldn't be a bad idea at all, or even early-peak on Saturday.

I think the assault course was the worst part of the last series (unless you count the presenter). It's pointless unless you can actually see who's in the lead, if someone's about to steal the lead, etc. I thought it used to be the final round in "classic" KF, too - or have I got that wrong? It would make for a better conclusion.

Krypton first time never finished on the Physical Ability round. It was almost always third or fourth in the running order, though it was the first event filmed. Indeed one contestant could be seen with bandages on the ankle and you can bet your bottom dollar they didn't break it just walking up to the chair.

I'm sure it's always been general knowledge to finish, as you can earn the most points in that round. Always thought it was slightly unfair to those who did not have as good general knowledge, you could be pretty average and yet, if you were fantastic in a university challenge sort of way, you could pull back what you needed in that final round.

I've seen some episodes in the past where the contestant has been last up to the final round and pulls off a win, solely because they have brilliant general knowledge. Still, it's all part of the show, which worked so well for so long, so they were definitely doing something right!

It's A Shame ITV don't have another studios to use, as it seem there have no room at Manchester

At the rate ITV are going they wont have any studios in 5 years time. Laughing

Losing Leeds was a stupid idea in my opinion... but being a YTV person I guess I would say that! Really killing off Yorkshire was a short term solution that caused a lot of job losses and axings, when in reality a longer term plan would've worked better AND saved a region.

But now I'm going off topic I guess...

If they're going to shoot them as separate passes then they should use something like Simulcam to show the relative performances overlaid :

http://www.dartfish.com/en/sports-enhancements/sport_performance_software/index.htm

They used this to excellent effect on the Winter Olympics in Turin/Torino to compare different skiers performances. The skiers performed individually, but you could compare their performances when they merged the camera shots from different runs.

Any ideas how to get to TLS? The tube line I want to use to get to the recording is closed for planned works tomorrow.
