He'd be more suitable than Ben Shepherd, I suppose!
Anyone who saw the original run of Krypton Factor back in the day will know that creating a dramatic atmosphere or having a glitzy set / fancy lighting was completely not its style anyway. It was all about the challenge of the rounds, which they didn't try to 'sell' to the viewer by adding tense background music over everything - they simply didn't need to do that.
But that's not to say the presentation was bland throughout - the final round had an effective visual style, modifications of the logo for the different rounds was a neat idea and the 'Beat Box'-esque theme tune was funky stuff. But I doubt the latter two of those will remotely survive - the new logo will probably be rigid and unimaginative by comparison, and the music will get stripped of all its groove, possibly in favour of something orchestral...

And now Dermot Murnaghan has severed his links with Eggheads, it could be a suitable way for him to top up his Sky News salary and not get forgotten by the terrestrial TV masses.

I've never seen this show before, but judging by that clip it needs a makeover.
Well it was 1989.
I'd be happy to see the show back, i enjoyed watching the re-runs on FTN.

Well whoever hosts it, you can almost be sure they won't have this round in it these days.

If you ever watched the ITV version of Survivor from a few years ago he hosted that and IMO he pulled it off quite well.
If not Mark Austin, maybe the presenter of the second series of Survivor, Mark Nicholas (more famed for presenting cricket), he also presents that cooking show on ITV.

I don't think Austin is such a good call.

I'm sure by the time it's announced we'll probably have covered all possibilities, but if they did opt for female I could imagine Mary Nightingale or Kirsty Young suiting the role perfectly, or perhaps the most obvious choice Carol Vorderman, though she probably hasn't got the best relationship with ITV Productions at present.

I see that the Krypton Factor was confirmed to be definitely returning today, and will be ITV's first primetime advertiser funded programme.
Basically, the IT company Sage are funding the show.

It'll still have ads I'm sure, but based on other programmes like Transmission with T Mobile and Orange Playlist it's possible rather than having sponsor bumpers the Sage branding will be worked into the titles themselves.
Good news though really - with it being funded by SAGE it should take some of the pressure off compared to if it was solely reliant on ads within the show.
And just a thought - with regional programming getting the chop do we think they might slot it in the scheduled on Thursday nights at 7.30pm?
