I think we're all of pretty much the same opinion then - good, but a few creases to iron out.

Hopefully as it's filling a dead slot for ITV ratings won't be too crucial in determining the second series - it'll be interesting to see if by the final the show starts containing ads.

Going slightly OT but unsurprisingly Duel won't be returning to ITV this year - which IMO is a damn shame because out of all the programmes that came with the "new look" ITV last year, it was one of the best and with a few tweaks I'm deserved a second attempt - it could even work in a stripped down daytime format really.

I'd agree - I thought Duel was pretty watchable but it obviously needed a touch up here and there. It's nice to have a new quiz show concept once in a while and I thought Duel was a nice idea. Shame it's not going to get a second chance.

I'd rather see it - as you say in a daytime slot than not at all. It could easily replace the quickly tiresome "Spin Star". It's ITV's answer to Deal Or No Deal but just doesn't work. There are so many things wrong with it despite it being a fairly decent concept. It just plods along for no good reason. Whereas with Duel it wasn't exactly fast moving but you had the psychological element which justified slightly more.

Fair point - but ITV still have 10 or more episodes of Shaft that they have yet to show! So they could easily bring it back one day!

But back to TKF! You never know - they may alter the filming technique of the assualt course for the 2nd programme next week??? After they have seen how it looked for the 1st time? Maybe?

Anyway, noone has a right to criticise this fine production from ITV! Very Happy

It's not working on ITV Player, which is annoying as I missed it!

The Assault Course could be better. It looks like something done up on a school trip, and doesn't seem as professionally put together as the original. Nevertheless, it's a great show. I like how the sponsor vaguely links into the intro; very Surprise Surprise IMO.

And somebody please tell me that audience isn't canned.

I find it annoying they won't give Duel a second chance, but will continue to push out the tired Chris Tarrant asking Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for the millionth time.

Is Ben tied down to ITV now? Or can he still do 1 vs 100 for the Beeb?

Also don't really like the lack of a studio audience, IMO any gameshow looks decidedly budget and shoestring without it.

They DID have a studio audience - where d'y'think the pictures & report earlier in the thread came from?!

Remember, it's "advertiser funded" - ITV will do no worse than break even on it, because they're not paying for it! That puts it ahead of almost anything else they can put in that slot straight away, since they don't need to sell ads for it... (in effect, pushing the decision whether to renew or not onto the sponsor)

I dipped into it during a lull in EastEnders and I must say it looks good. I'll be watching the repeat next week.

Maybe not, as don;t there film EVERYONE on the same day, thus cut cost and such?

I think Mt Shepherd will basically work for anyone who'll pay him - remember his main gig is with GMTV, not ITV, which like other GMTV presenters pretty much leaves them free to top up their TV airtime where ever they like.

Well just managed to catch this on ITV Player and was very impressed. I wasn't expecting it to be a travesty or anything but did fear some of the original spirit would be lost. But not so, they've obviously looked back at the show at the height of its popularity and given a significant nod to it.

OK, it's not the original, and it never was going to be. It's been brought nicely up to date. Would like to see all four contestants starting at the same time on the assault course. And like many others found the filming of the whole sequence very off putting.

As for Ben - well he's obviously giving a nod to Gordon Burns in his style, though that may be down to the production team of course. His voiceover on the intelligence test was something straight out of the original which I thought was excellent.

Missed the flight simulator - always thought that was a nice bit of the show but didn't actually think about it until the programme was over so it didn't ruin it by any means.

A few wrinkles to iron out but all in all, this is exactly the kind of thing ITV needs to be producing to further it's street cred as a serious contender in broadcasting.

I think in the earlier series that was only in use during the semi-finals. So I do wonder if they will use a flight simulator at that stage.

I was impressed by the whole thing. In many ways it is clear that the production team actually know what the show was and what it should be now, I suppose with it being advertiser funded they've all had a bit more freedom from the powers that be.

Must add something interesting which must have been done post edit, Ben Shepherd did not say a word when a contestant completed the intelligence test, unlike last night's show, and the audience did not clap (well, apart from a bit of applause, where they told us to stop to avoid disturbing the others).

Believe me, when someone completed it, half the studio jumped when the noise and light came on to say they had finished, mainly as it was totally silent and we had no idea the contestant was nearly done. The poor guy next to me was holding his chest in complete shock after it happened!
