I was about to post a reply to the thread before it was closed . . . on the subject of graphics.

Those who have a long memory will remember the graphics on Sky changed for 2 months for the Kosovo crisis (1999) - astons etc.
Infact, they changed twice:
Originally, they were grey with the Nato symbol on them & then in the latter weeks green (which reminded me of some sort of hospital graphics - with the grids in green etc!)

The 2nd sytle used is displayed below (and the previous thread it was in was blocked).

BBC never bothered with special astons etc for N24. Should a channel effectively re-brand itself with a new image for a crisis?

The thread was moved to the General Chat Forum as you keep posting things in the wrong forum.

Too right the BBC never rebranded the astons - its providing a reputable news service!! What sort of channel has different astons every other day?

I remember that aston yes.
I think Sky really started to experiment late last year, having new graphics for almost everything big, such as the middle east, fuel crisis, etc etc.

CNN regularly changes its astons for big events, such as the US China problems and the Mcveigh Execution.

The trouble with the BBC astons is they were designed to be simple.
And that is all very well but it is nice to have a little variation.
Sadly, I think the current Sky astons will not be changed much, and whilst they have grown on me I think that they look a bit shoddy and too simple!

I don't think Sky really rebrand themselves when they change graphics, they would involve a change of name, which obviously didn't happen.
I think as long as graphics follow the regular theme, and if they just have colours changed then it adds a nice bit of variation and makes the coverage seem a little more prepared for.

May I just point out that they are not rebranding themselves when they change their astons!
They keep the same name, logo and identity.
The BBC used to change its astons for certain events, the Gulf War was a fine example, they even changed the titles for certain programmes so I don't think that saying they are providing a reputable news service justifies not changing astons!
Sky's coverage was widely seen as the best from Kosovo, and they clearly changed their astons so I don't think it really matters to be honest.

I thought perhaps Wimbledon would see the top part of the Sky graphics being in purple. It would then be the same colour as the

Sky Centre Wimbledon

graphic.

Sky didn't have special graphics for the fuel crisis/mid-east.

Although, Sky used different astons & headline graphics when they used a ticker on special occassions (eg fuel crisis)

The BBC mis-read the news value of Kosovo entry & failed to put enough equipment into the field.

SHUT UP!
For God's sake, Robert closed the twin thread to this as it wasn't to do with TV presentation.
We know that you are obsessed with SKY NEWS, and god help us if we didn't know that. Now we know, YOUR opinion that it is better,
SHUT UP. The fact is, SKY NEWS may be better than NEWS 24, but who really gives a d*amn ?

Please close thread again,
or move it.

Getting back to the topic of presentation, NOT NEWS.
Sky did have graphics for the Fuel Crisis and the Middle East, i've got both if you want to see them.
I think they should perhaps get the turquoise globe that they have to be animated when they have the dual screen thing and in the background of other things such as when they have a 'Voice of' caption on screen with a picture of someone, the background should be animated.

News 24 should have a bit of animation on those annoying info bursts they keep using for court cases, the current colours of orange, yellow, purple, beige and black really don't work!

I will now tell you when I think the BBC were 'better' as such:

egs (there are MANY more)

1) Iraq December 1998 - Sky didn't bring in a reporter until 2 days after the bombing began. The Beeb had reporters in their for weeks before hand. Sky relied on CBS & the coverage was patchy

2) This weekend Sky don't even have a reporter in the Majorca covering the chaos. The Beeb & even ITN do. (maybe their people were already there on holiday!!!)

They DID have special graphics for fuel, Mid-East & FMD. I meant they didn't have special astons. Yes, they had different
Sky Centre, location graphics

as they have used with the new design
eg
1) Paddington Report
2) Jerusalem building collapse

I agree with Chesh on the graphics used for phone pieces.

Slowed down, the globe would be better
