Those presentational days of night-time being discussed are not a patch on this following little logo..

I remember that, the music went: 'Niiiiiigggggghhhhhhhttttttt Ttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmeeeee' and the graphics had little sound meters in time to the music.

Does anyone have this online? I wish ITV would bring back some of these idents, much better than the boring ones on lately!

Would we be wasting our time by finding out if they would bring them back? If only for one night only???

Who remembers when ITV's Night Time idents were like this . . . ?

You are mentioning the Night Time which I am talking about, but the problem is that there were several Overnight services on ITV throughout the the late 1980's and early 1990's dependent on where you lived. The clip you have put up here is the version which came from Granada, but went out to Tyne Tees, Grampian and I think TSW. The IT* Night Time service came from Thames and LWT, that went out to London and probably Anglia and later HTV, when they abandoned Night Club. Though TVS did their own service called Late Night Late, which went out on Channel aswell. Central, had it's own service, as did Yorkshire with Night Shift and I think that Scottish had an overnight service too. But most of these did disappear by 1994, when Carlton bought Central, Granada bought LWT, Late Night Late had gone too, this I believe being the time when the neon people came into the most of the regions.

Here's another classic ITV Night Time ident/trailer from 1989 . . .

(To download, right click and select "Save Link Target As . . .")

Download Windows Media 8 version of the clip.
Download Real Video 8.5 version of the clip.

For some reason I only ever remember seeing the purple version of the spinning dancy people idents. And I remeber the Granda Night time cat one, with the man saying "night time" in a gruff voice every now and then. It also had a g-logo dog on screen during the idents at least.

OK, here's a couple of soundclips from 1991/2ish(for some reason the upload service won't accept them, despite them being MP3s)

EDIT - neither of these work as they don't allow MP3s!... will sort it tomorrow!

TSW Night-time ident

Which was followed on air by a generic night-time ident (from Granada?)

Speaking of "the man saying tnight time' in a gruff voice", having listened carefully to it on those clips I've
encoded, I'm sure it's the voice of one time Granada announcer, Jim Pope, but played at a very low pitch.
IIRC, Jim Pope was one of Granada TV's more populat in-vision announcers during the 1980's, and was
also the voiceover on "University Challenge", during the original Bamber Gascoigne era.

Sadly though, I believe Mr Pope died a couple of years ago, as IIRC he was also the announcer on the
newer BBC TWO version of "UC" fronted by Jeremy Paxman, and was replaced by a new announcer.

I have got on to the BMG site, and registered. But what do I need to play .asp file extentions. I have Real Player and Windows Media Player and it doesn't seem to be these.

The Granada Night Time service went out on Granada, Border, Tyne Tees, Ulster/UTV and Grampian. Tyne Tees left Night Time in October 1992 when they started taking the YTV service (which had previously just been standard YTV-branded stuff but then changed to the monumentally tedious Night-Shift, which would usually consist of a 30-second ident, John Crosse introducing the next programme, followed by a break then the same 30-second ident again and John saying much the same as he had before the break).

Night-Shift ran to October 1994 when it was changed back to standard branding (TTTV also had standard OOV branding using the Newcastle anno at the same time). That ran on until January 1998 when the dancing things took over.

The dancing things took over from the other Granada areas and London/Central in 1994.

If I was up one night and I saw the disco nighttime ident early in the morning when the dark was around me, I would jump and get the biggest shock of my life. Scary ident, but I love it! There was an ident I remember which had a white background and these similar movement images like in the disco ident. Is there a video clip of that ident avaliable?

I believe this is what you are looking for.......

http://thetvroom.com/images-itv-net/images-past/ident-99-1a.jpg
From The TV Room

From what I have got on video there were four versions of the disco people.....

Purple - Used for general entertainment
Green - Used for sport
White - Well I am not too sure, but I have a next link of this one on tape which advertises God's Gift, so I assume young people or music
Brown - Well again I don't know, but I have this one on tape which leads to GMTV, but the music from this one sounds like a car chase mixed with an Action film, so I'd probably say this one was used for films.

Were there anymore made?
