I've been posting here since I was 12. I'm now 17.

Get away! I thought you were in your 20s ! This is the same Billy who sent me a fantasy tv schedule for my ye olde russnet tv site by chance?

Yes it was, back in 2000. Was 11 then (or might have just gone 12, I forget).

If you think that's scary, I'm 18 in three months!

we've been ignoring paul akimbollocks or whatever is name is and he's an adult, i think, so why not just ignor anybody else who posts childish stuff

also those children are the tv forum posters of the future so if we ban them they won't be able to become members when they are old enough

My views on this one are well known to the long standing members, so I won't bore you all to tears over again, save to publish a quick precis for anyone new.

Never mind the age, feel the quality.

Oh, and for one appearance only, and just because of the multiple requests:-

He may be on to something though - restricting starting new threads to those with more than 10 posts might be feasible

I have thought about this idea before, but to be honest it effectively sanctions the buggers to post randomly and pointlessly in order to reach that magic number - it just wouldn't work.

Although it would perhaps be quite unrealistic to do, it may be an idea to IP check members, as I bet that the seemingly large amount of new members are actually a select few who simply re-register once they have been banned or gained a bit of a reputation.

However, I do believe that some new members do get it a bit rough. We've all been through it, discovering the forum (as I did by chance, little over a year ago), and hoping to ease in smoothly. I admit that I have, on occassion, been a bit harsh to a couple of people, but that was due to something completley ridiculous being said. If somebody has an intelligent opinion to share or some info to give, then it should be respected, regardless of whether it says 2006 next to their name or not.

On the other hand, and the bottom line for those who couldn't be arsed to read my post, "CBBC: John Leslie's said something on Blue Peter" (or whatever it is nowadays) threads and those who start one to say something relatively minor are pointless, and do get on my tits a bit. Perhaps, for the benefit of these kind of posters, a "creche" forum should be set up.

I agree - you've put forward some valid points. Surely people will just post empty replies to threads to overcome this restriction? It would surely aggravate the problem.

I also feel that there is a particular bias against newcomers, they are all generalised as being 'trolls', and whilst a majority of them are, there exists a select few that do want to make a genuine and valid contribution. It is said few that can help the forum mature and improve. I don't find it incumbent that action is taken concerning this problem, I feel that it's just a little annoyance in life that won't go away, like junk mail or the BBC Three DOG.

Seeing as many of the adults here post speculative and often juvenile views and opinions, why not let the actual kids do it too.
At least they have immaturity as an excuse.

I believe that we should give everyone a chance and if all they do is post stupid comments and mocks then simply ban them. Though obviously a forum for TV enthusiasts we can't expect that everyone will know what a playout server is or a DOG or other such terminology. I remember when I first joined that I knew next to nothing, other than stuff I'd picked up on TV Home, so all we can do is give people a chance, even if some of the stuff is a little stupid and not thought through.

IMHO setting an age limit is discriminating against any younger people who may have a valid opinion. Many of the "I'm only 12" style posts may have merely been done by trolls. Also an age limit such as you are suggesting may be very dificult to enforce.

But I really am 12, and will stop making mocks.

Another tip: Stop saying "I'm only <age>" all the time, it shows to people that your not willing to take responsiblity/excuse.
