The first season has been released on DVD, though whatever these rights issues are involve something from the second series onwards. These are usually either music clearance rights (repeat fees) or cast repeat fees (though these are usually cleared perpetually before filming begins).

Well the first series DVD was very badly produced, made by one of these cheap DVD companies, rather than a BBC/FremantleMedia release.

And most music used was dubbed over with a cheaper, similar version. For example in one scene, Lady In Red plays in the background whilst the characters talk, and another version is played over the top of it, to try and disguise it. In another scene, Wham is meant to play on the radio, and instead a cheap 80's library track is played at high volume over the top of it.

It's very badly done.

I agree, the music was very badly done for the first series! I bet that’s why the rest of the series have not been released yet, cos of the music issues.

I think it would be better if BBC DVD released it, just like 'one foot in the grave'. The DVD covers look nice and so does the complete boxset!

‘Birds of a feather’ was released by 'Prism Leisure' http://www.prismleisure.com/ ,and the DVD cover looks a mess and the music on the episodes is a right sham too!

If BBC DVD or 2entertain don’t release it, then I would rather 'Universal playback' release it, like they do with 'keeping up appearances'. At least they wont make a dogs dinner of the music!!

I don't think the BBC actually own the rights to BOAF, I think that is up to Marks and Gran's company, Alomo, which is now in the hands of FremantleMedia.

But I agree I'm rather surprised that Playback or Network haven't shown any interest in picking it up for a DVD release.

No it's FremantleMedia, ITV3 shows a fair whack of programmes from FremantleMedia, which include the Alomo archives (Goodnight Sweetheart, Lovejpy) and Thames aswell.
