Katie Derham-ITVs answer to Kaplinsky?

Do you agree that it would be a good idea for ITV to ape the BBC and try and mould her into a mainstream entertainment presenter?

I think shed be great, and shes 20 times as sexy as Kaplinsky.

No!! She should stick with what shes good at - reading the news! Kaplinsky is seen as a lightweight presenter because of all the light entertainment she does, and a move by Derham would lead to the same thing. Personally, shes already fallen in my estimation from the display on the new dumbed-down lunchtime news, frowning and shaking her head at a 'bad' news story as if to suggest to the viewer what reaction they should have when watching.

I thought maybe once or twice on ITV News she would take on some business stories to do, as IIRC, she was business editor on BBC Radio before she moved to ITN, but this seems unlikely what with Lauren Taylor taking up the post now.

Quite simply shes not gobby and southern. Kerpulsky is a law unto her own; Shes like the plague - Shes everywhere.

I thought derham came on the scene before kaplinsky.

I thought KD had already started down the showbiz route . Shes been hosting more award shows and going to film premieres recently . As mentioned her move back to daytime news has given her showbiz profile a lift once more but shes pregnant again so she'll vanish off our screens and any competition with other presenters will then stop for a while.

There is no suggestion Katie will become a mainstream presenter.

The last ITV News reader to front mainstream shows was probably Kirsty Young, who hosted shows like The People Versus and Rat Trap.

Mary Nightingale has also done numerous programmes, but not for a couple of years.

How you can find Mrs. Kaplinsky in the slightist way attractive is a mystery to me.
