From one awful name to another...

Digital Spy posted:
The commercial video-on-demand service being developed by BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 will be launched under the name SeeSaw, according to a report.

The service, known so far as Project Kangaroo, may be delayed until next year, however. BBC Worldwide has yet to seek approval from the BBC Trust, while the project is also being investigated by the Office of Fair Trading.

Another key obstacle to progress is agreement between Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 on how it should work.

SeeSaw has now been chosen from a shortlist of names, sources told Media Week.

Ashley Highfield, the BBC's director of future media and technology, was last month named as the chief executive of the project.

I actually think it's quite a clever name. Using the present and past tense of 'see' kind of reflects the time-shift nature of the service. That was my first thought anyway.

Awful name - we knew "Kangaroo" would never be it's final name but "Seesaw" sounds like something associated with CBeebies.

On a similar note See Saw was the name of the brand the BBC used after they dropped Watch With Mother in 1980 or so.

SeeSaw sounds better than Kangaroo.

MediaGuardian claims that the name hasn't yet been chosen.

Quote:
It is understood that the name SeeSaw, one of a number of options on a shortlist, had become popular with some executives working on Project Kangaroo.

However, it is thought that it is far from certain that SeeSaw will prevail. One source close to the project said that there had been "a move away" from the name recently, while another said that there would now be more research and consumer testing of a number of brand names. An official announcement expected soon after Highfield joins Kangaroo.

Clearly it's currently... in the balance. Wink

Close the door quietly then...

I'm starting to get used to the name SeeSaw. It's a far better name than Kangaroo.

They're making quite a hulabaloo about the kangaroo...

The 'See Saw' I associated the BBC was the Children's programming slot circa the 1980s, so naturally, my first reaction was that it sounds a bit too childish - but I don't think it's really any worse than 'Kangaroo'.

It's all a bit unbalanced.
