So, let me get this straight...
Domino's Pizza are forced to end their almost-nine year sponsorship deal with The Simpsons.
Coco Monkey's gonna disappear off TV after fourty three years.
Ronald McDonald's gonna disappear off TV after god knows how many years. And any mention of Happy Meals.

It's like in 1962 when cigarette ads were banned from children's programmes. That was a wise move, but this is completely insane.

It'll be quite strange watching The Simpsons without Domino's sponsorship - it feels like it's been there for The Simpsons life on Sky.

The promos are a bit rubbish now right enough - they were a lot better a few years back.

This ban is a bit pathetic - I'm guessing this will effect Coke's Christmas ads. And considering a lot of the programmes at Christmas time are aimed at children, we may see it less.

I suspect we'll see more McDonalds and Coco Pops adverts during primetime so it isn't a complete loss. They might aim at adults more though.

Completly missed this thread first time around!

As I said before it is a lazy way of dealing with the issue - if they are that concerned it they should be stopping the manufacturing of the products, not the sale of them!

And the ironic thing is that by doing this OFCOM are kind of saying that you shouldn't worry if your kids sit in front of the TV all day because at least they won't be tempted by junk food.

This is brilliant news!

Of course, this isn't the solution, but it is part of it.

There are corporations urging children to eat rubbish!

Would you let a stranger in your house, trying to persuade your children into doing unhealthy stuff? Wouldn't u want to kick them out? Why let Ronald McDonald have unquestioned time with your children?

Children can't make an informed choice! It is the parents who should make the choice. Advertising stuff like this to children is entirely wrong.

Most the time though it's the parents feeding the kids the rubbish!

Which is exactly the point that is lost on many! Call me old fashioned but isn't there something that happens between children watching these ads and them stuffing their face? Do we not have parenting anymore?

You shouldn't under estimate pester power though.

I'm really not sure about this ban, I don't think they've really thought about what they are doing here it could potentially ruin the TV industry. It's one thing to ban adverts targeted at kids or during kids programming but this ban is something else. If you ask me it borders on censorship.

No doubt the junk food corps will be finding the loopholes to get around this ban already.

I think you are exaggerating just a little bit. McDonald's sell burgers, they aren't drug dealers!

You are talking as if the kids are going into McDonald's themselves with their own money. As someone said above, don't we have parenting anymore.

I bet most obese kids come from chavvy families whose parents give them burgers daily because they can't be bothered cooking, and nothing to do with Ronald McDonald appearing between programmes on CITV

Another pedantic point, but Ronald hasn't appeared in McDonalds adverts for a good few years now (to my knowledge anyway).

Bang on. This will do nothing but destroy the UK Kid's TV industry and have a severe effect on the rest of UK Television.

It also amazes me how the shows with no worries of being axed - Corrie, Emmerdale etc - are the ones to 'escape' this ban because OfCom seem to think kids won't be watching as eagerly then as they would during regular kiddie's treats during Citv. What a bunch of dullards.

I don't appreciate that.

Indeed, it is the parents who go in eventually. Though, wouldn't it make the parents' jobs a lot easier, if there rn't entities trying to persuade the child to make the parents' decision not to take them there a lot harder? Why allow something that can turn a day out into a struggle, because the child sees a cartoon of Rupert McDogal inside a store in a shopping centre, and kicks and screams becuase the salad sandwich on there hands to happen?
