AIUI the UK are guaranteed a final placing in the adult Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey next year, as they are one of the major backers of the EBU. Not only do we not get relegated, we don't have to go through the preliminary heats...
AIUI the four big backers of the EBU (UK, France, Germany and Spain?) are guaranteed places in the main Saturday night contest, as are a certain number of the highest place finalists of this years contest. The lower ranked places along with those who were not able to enter this year will have to fight through the Wednesday heats.
AIUI the BBC don't have to show the semis (by EBU rules) as they are guaranteed a place in the finals (so there is no incentive for the BBC to show them) However I suspect that the BBC will find an outlet for them, along with the previews, possibly on BBC Three.
I would also not be surprised if the BBC made a bigger event out of "Song for Europe" next year. It is a huge national event in countries like Sweden, and I think the Beeb may try to emulate this.
They lumped regions in with each other in the 80s for New Faces, it's nothing new.
The ESC is crap anyway, I don't know why we bother. Everyone hates us because we pissed them all off by kicking some Iraqi butt, irrespective of wether it did any good or not.
I nearly fell of my sofa when I heard HTV West mentioned... I wonder what strange logic was behind that :
For the Record of the Year awards it was ITV1 West etc etc. Maybe they are have second thoughts! LOL!
Apart from the region name check treat the show was very dire indeed, none of the kids could sing for a start but the winner was very sweet. Poor little lad.
The show reminded me of the Mini Pops!!!

I really hope they do. They could do Eurovision Fame Academy!!! The teachers would include Cheryl Baker, Jonny Logan, Bjorn from Abba and Dana International and for an added treat it would be hosted by Dame Katie of Boyle and Mr Wogan of course. Well you can dream can't ya!
Another thing about the region names... very interesting they decided to call it "Carlton Westcountry".... On the channel they don't seem to like the Carlton name, they just call it ITV1 Westcountry or just Westcountry!
Just goes to show how so many people are against the Carlton group!
This may be considered off topic, but its trivial none-the-less:
I just found out that I know someone who's friend was the winner of Junior Eurovision- I didn't see the programme myself, so I don't know how bad it was, but still.
You can now say to your family and friends "you know someone who read about someone else knowing the winners friend".
Well I watched the programme and I was very disappointed. The kiddies (on the most part) were young townie scum with earrings and shaved heads emulating the arrogance of 'RoZi' on Coronation Street (..."Uzlot"... ).
Tara is an absolutely useless presenter; totally wooden. Equally, the same about the man, although he was slightly better.
The set looked naff, the songs were naff, it was all naff. Even the "going around the regions" bit was ruined by it being in such a small studio.
I suppose it's the first one, so it may improve if ITV have it back next year.
It really ought to have been a programme that should have gone out during CITV. They could have had a 20 minute show every day for a week on CITV, and got people to vote with the winner announced on SMTV, not in primetime Saturday night.

Well I'm sure most would agree with regards to the programme. But it's a bit silly saying the kids are "young townie scum". You clearly know them all very well.

Well, it wazn't meant directly... but the ladz did look like towniez with their zhaved headz and earringz.
It'z well known anyway - never enter a competition againzt a little kiddie, becauze the little kiddie will alwayz win.
