No interest in this but must mention it got a radio outing in the UK on Sunday FUN KIDS took the contest giving commentary too. The Sunday afternoon slot really will get more people interested in taking this on in the future.

It's not been shown in the U.K. for years. I sometimes think this is a pity, but then I dipped into it the other day and remembered why.

I think it was either 2003 or 2004 the last time it was showed in the UK (we did enter it once and surprisingly came 3rd in the competition) but it was on ITV, then it moved to ITV2 the following year when we didn't enter (and we were meant to host it and then never did) and then it sort of became Minipops-esque all over again and now the only place to see it in the UK is via the online streaming.

The year Carlton TV were suppose to hold it we come second, I wonder if the merger had anything to do with it.

Worth saying ITV did it back in the early 2000s but Ireland only entered for the first time last year when TG4 entered an act and got them to perform in Irish

ISTR ITV went big on it, it tanked, and even though they'd kind of committed to hosting it the following year, they pulled out.

The Nordic countries entered for a while (quite a few Swedish Melodifestivalen favourites represented Sweden at JESC), but I think they withdrew as they were concerned at the pressure it put the contestants under (and probably also because it seldom hits the production values of the main Eurovision).

I don't think the UK has ever got over Minipops, so anything that even reminds people of it in this country is going to do very badly indeed.

The other problem is with how the UK views Eurovision, and television in general. We like to take the piss, and it's a little trickier to do that with a show where it's all about children performing than adults. You can't exactly imagine a Graham Norton commentary track over it.

Beyond that, people just can't get over the name. I'm a huge fan of Eurovision and even I wasn't planning on watching it. It was only when I saw someone mention it on Twitter, dipped in and found it to be quite entertaining - and bless, lovely at the end when everyone encouraged the winner along. Most people won't get that far.

It makes me wonder what exactly ITV expect to get from The Voice Kids, though I'm sure they offered that just to get the main show. Maybe they'll just bury it on CITV.
