ITV was going to host this one year but when they saw how expensive it was going to be they bailed out.

Why thwy keep on creating these eurovision spinoffs I have no idea, as this and the dance contest are just awful.

ITV pulled out because it flopped in the ratings. It was then relegated to ITV2 the following year, then IIRC "we" won, meaning the next competition was to be held here, and Granada complained because the budget that Junior Eurovision handed them was nowhere near enough to stage the event. It went off to Norway after that at very short notice and now isn't shown anywhere in the UK. Presumably on the basis it doesn't attract a big enough audience on ITV1 so what chance do smaller channels have.

Of course now we don't show the event we have no need for an entry, since nobody practically saw it on ITV2 so I can only presume it was a contractual agreement to air that year's event.

I watched it on ITV1 in 2003 and ITV2 in 2004 and 2005.

In 2006 it wasn't shown in the UK as the UK didn't enter that year, nor since. I would have liked to have seen the webcast online, but my computer of the time: Packard-Bell PB 1050 with 128 Mb RAM, 1GHz Athlon CPU and Windows 98SE wasn't powerful enough to run OctoShape, worse luck Sad . I was still in the same situation in 2007.

Christmas 2007 I got my current PC, Acer M1100 which is much more powerful (loads more RAM, dual core processor, Windows Vista Home Premium), so last year (2008) I was able to download OctoShape and watch the webcast.

I was hoping to watch it tonight, but yesterday and today my AOL Broadband connection has been extremely slow, pushing my patience and tolerance to the limit. Last night I saw the posts appear one by one on the CIN 09 thread! BBC iPlayer and YouTube give me a few seconds, then a long delay for more buffering. I've so far only got a couple seconds of JESC before it ground to a halt. As far as I understand, JESC 09 will still be available to watch online from tomorrow onwards, so hopefully I'll be able to sit and watch it once my AOL Broadband speed is back up to full speed I should be getting here.

So basically, in 2006 and 2007 I didn't have a powerful enough PC to watch the web cast, this year I do have a powerful enough PC but the internet connection is running to slowly, worse luck!

Ironically last Saturday it was working well, I uploaded a batch of snaps from my recent holiday in Cornwall to Flickr, and had no problem watching YouTube videos. If only JESC 09 had been last Saturday.

The UK never won the Junior Eurovision in the three years it took part, and unlike the real Eurovision, the host country is decided in advance and is not last year's winner, supposedly in order to reduce the pressure on the participants. ITV were due to host the second contest in 2004, which went to Norway instead; ITV relegated it to ITV2 in the same year.

I endorse what you say there, sticking ANYTHING on ITV2 back in November 2004 or November 2005 was a recipe for disaster, as a lot of people still didn't have any form of digital then. If they'd put the FA Cup Final on ITV2 at the time there wouldn't have been many viewers. They should have kept it on ITV1, which everyone could get.
