Sad news coming out this evening that June Whitefield has died at the age of 93.

It was only yesterday that an article that she had done had came out. RIP.

Confirmed now by her agent. I saw the posts on Twitter a couple of hours ago but nothing was being reported at the time.

Sky News now carrying it.

Both Sky News & BBC were showing the back half fillers. Sky News do have it in the headlines. BBC News is showing World News with Martin Stanford so the story is only on the ticker.

I wonder if relatives of those in the care home leaked it?

Bit sick if they did.

Funnily enough during the last 20 years or so she seemed to get younger every time she appeared in something, the sort of person you'd expect to go on forever.

She was one of those actresses who despite all the changes in comedy was still in demand (she even did a memorable performance with Julian Clary). Hers was a clean, gentle style of comedy which is why I think her career lasted for as long as it did. RIP

Some background ...

The provenance for the initial break on Twitter was at 6.21pm from an account appearing to be that of Comedy Producer Jon Plowman. At 8.32pm a member of June's extended family confirmed the news in a reply to the original Tweet. Care is needed in these circumstances, but the nature of tweets on the Plowman account led me to believe the truth of the content of the 6.21pm tweet fairly quickly.

Sad News nevertheless.

She was one of those actors who never really aged. Universally liked and respected

Like Denis Norden she was a link back through the history of TV comedy, outliving all the greats she worked with. Just Nicolas Parsons of that generation left now I think, he'll keep going a while yet

Night Thoughts and DE88 gave kudos

Was only saying earlier how we hadn't had a big celebrity death this Christmas.

I think BBC1 are due to show the Ab Fab movie over New Year anyway (which I assume she features in), so suspect that'll be shown in her memory.
