LOL, they seriously need to get out of that miserable set they are in, it's dark, and has a hole in the middle with a fake LIVE gallery as the centre point!

I remember when they first made that set and we all loved it. I think it went bad when they changed from the nice looking fake gallery to the horrible looking real one that is all blue and crap. Look at the pic of Matthew Ambuhimbulushka on www.bbc.co.uk/tv and the thing behing him looks much better than what is there now.

How on earth can you say that Hayton shows feint glimmers of hope?

He's so dour.

If he were a country, he'd be Belgium.

awwwww Shocked

Phil is good because:
1) He's had a lot of journalistic experience.
2) He chats a lot to the presenters such as Declan and the Live weather forecasters, and makes the occasional un-scripted comment - which is a lot more than most of the presenters on the channel.
3) He's not fluffy and lightweight, like nearly every presenter on that channel - especially the women.

Overall, I think the only person on News 24 who would have a hope in hell at fitting in at Sky News is Jane Hill, and she looks like shes about to be poached by BBC One.

I agree that most of the News24 presenting team are pretty bad - but here's an attempt at showing how they could use all their reasonable presenters in a bearable manner for a day:

6:00 - 9:00 Breakfast with Bill Turnbull & Sian Williams
9:00 - 13:00 Chris Eakin and Joanna Gosling
13:00 - 17:00 Jon Sopel and Jane Hill
17:00 - 22:00 Dermot Murnaghan and Maxine Mawhinney
22:00 - 01:00 Tanya Beckett
01:00 - 05:00 Philip Hayton

Now that would work!

oi you. Belgium is cool - they make nice chips there and everyone speaks perfect English (most useful).

Well Dermot & Jon Sopel are pretty rubbish at being in studio. And Tanya is too good on the WBR to go there. I'd have something along the lines of:

0600 - 0900 : BBC News 24 Breakfat (NOT BBC1) - Martin Popplewell & Anna Jones
0900 - 1300 : Chris Eakin & Maxine Mawhinney
1300 - 1600 : Peter Sissons & Martine Croxall
1600 - 1900 : Phil Hayton & Jane Hill
1900 - 2230 : Alistair Yates & Lindsey Brancher
2300 - 0100 : Peter Dobbie

The overnight presenters are often the better ones, and by getting rid of most of the naff presenters they can spend that money on better Live coverage of rolling events.

You're at serious risk of re-opening the should they/shouldn't they simulcast Breakfast there! Without going into it again, my views are expressed in my proposed schedule above.

Dermot is admittedly rubbish on Breakfast, but I think he's pretty good in a more conventional studio setting. Jon Sopel I think is rather good.

As for Tanya, WBR is on far too early for me, so I'd like to see her do something at a more sensible time of day! If you really think she's too good to do 22:00 - 01:00 then just swap her with Gosling woman and get her on from 09:00 - 13:00.

I do agree with you about getting rid of the naff presenters though - notice no Wallydoodah in either of our schedules!

The best thing about Belgium is they make Stella Artois. Beyond that ... erm ...

Yes there is no room anywhere for:
Arrow Matthew Ireallyamawally
Arrow Joanna Gosling
Arrow Louise Munchings
Arrow All the dodgy reporters who stand in - McVeigh.

EDIT : And of course they shouldn't be simulcasting Breakfast - a roundup of morning news stories does not fit well on a rolling news channel.

Im surprised no one has put Susannah Reid (probably spelt wrong) in there line up. She is great.

What's wrong with Matthew Amroliwala?

He's one of the best in my opinion - him and Jane are usually excellent.
