My educated guess is that ITV are not paying any amounts awarded.

I'm going to guess the losing party isn't having to pay out, as all you ever hear is "this court awards you", no reference is ever made to the defendant having to fork out the money. It also begs the question why would the defendant agree to appear if there is still a chance they'd have to pay out. If you're running a photography business for example it's not great publicity.
I'm guessing the American style court layout, and the Gavel are all there for international sales, so the show can sit alongside Judge Judy etc

To a certain extent maybe but it's probably for the UK viewers who are familiar with Judge Judy just as much as they're familiar with this layout too and to give them the impression it's a our own version of those shows.

If people have watch Law & Order UK or Kavanagh QC, they should recognise a UK court layout. Or if, like me, you've served on a jury.

I would imagine the wording reflects the actual wording used in a small claims court - after all, it is a court award in a real court.

The defendant would be likely to agree to appear because if the claimant is going to take them to court anyway, what are they going to lose by appearing on TV? It's like families who appear on Jeremy Kyle - it's a big day out and a chance to be on TV.

Is the voice over, by any chance Charles Foster - if not then it certainly sure sounds like him.

I think Judge Rinder is a character played by Cj de Mooi.

Wait...Huh? I guess I missed this one. So whats this guys background? Is he a barrister by trade or an actor....? A Bit confused...
Side question...have they ever done a version of Peoples Court or Divorce Court in the UK?

It's a joke, Cj is a professional quizzer [i.e. he was on The Weakest Link, 10 years ago did a strop after being voted off and other gameshow producers liked him] on a gameshow called 'Eggheads' Judge Rinder and Cj have a similar demeanour (i.e. Camp, bitchy)

If it is, I haven't heard his tones for a very long while and brings back memories of when Granada was great!

Caught this for the first time in my life and all I thought was, 'Judge Rinder highlights everything wrong with ITV Daytime.'.

I just feel like it's unnecessarily trashy.

This is it's raison d'etre

It's basically Jeremy Kyle but in a court room, with less chavvy guests...*
