A Manchester judge has condemned JK's show as "human bear baiting" after sentencing a man who had appeared on the show for headbutting a neighbour. District Judge Alan Berg claims the offence would not have taken place had producers not been persistent in trying to persuade the man's love rival to appear on the show.

Sadly the judge is right. ITV is increasingly relying on bullies to titilate its audience and JK's once refreshing schoolmaster approach has now gone way beyond that and his programme preys on the low intellect of its guests to provide conflict and entertainment.

Where are the upper working class and lower middle class guests on the Jeremy Kyle show? Exactly.

Exactly what?

It takes a certain kind of guttersnipe to go on a programme and have their filthy laundry exposed to the public. When have there ever been "lower middle classes" on programmes like this?

And I'm not sure what to make of "upper working class". I'm pretty sure you just made that up.

Exactly and that is why programmes like JK continue to thrive. People only watch to see the riff-raff try to knock ten bells out of each other, so anyone who can articulate their thoughts calmly and rationally doesn't make good telly. Yet ITV plc remains crass as ever, insisting there is a public service ethos to this programme.

I see there have been a number of attempts in recent weeks for JK to try and shed his trashy image by turning to human interest issues - making childrens' wishes come true, flying out to Africa etc. But the DNA/lie detector etc. remains at the heart of the format and one can see why Trisha walked out, though admittedly her show is no better.

I wish you wouldn't say, "exactly" when we're not in agreement, Simon.

ITV can legitimately say that talk shows like this are about conflict resolution. The fact that the guests must air their conflicts in order to resolve them is rather obvious, don't you think?

I'm afraid your specific charges against JK show that you are almost as out of touch as the patronising judge who (by his own admission) was 'forced' into watching ONE episode in order that he could understand the case.

JK's unique selling point is that he makes idiots, thugs and bigots squirm by laying into them - verbally - even though they are guests on his show. Seldom in the plethora of the genre does one see the presenter not suffering fools gladly.

Jeremy's show is one of the better daily talk shows available. Heaven help the judge if he had been forced to watch Springer.

I have no clue why you would bring Trisha into this. She quit ITV over where her show would be taped and how much she was to be paid (allegedly), so its quite wrong of you to hold her up as some kind of moral arbiter.

Pardon?

I've known people born in what are practically slums who are extraordinarily intelligent.

However, I do join you in your hate of the Jeremy Kyle show .

AIUI some trains of thought divide working class into "upper" and "lower" tiers, the loose definitions being:

Quote:
The upper working class are skilled workers. Although some skilled workers are affected by the new technology, on the all these sector on high demand. They have secured jobs and paid quite well and the instability on the economy does not affect them as much as professional people.

The lower working class is partly skilled or unskilled occupations. They receive less income than the above group.

I believe the UK government does officially split the working classes into "lower" and "upper", with jobs specifically defined along those lines-- even giving them official codes! If you were to scour the internet for long enough, you would probably find the details on an obscure gov website somewhere.

Hope that helps Smile

Captain Edmund Blackadder would recommend relocating to Jamaica in order to take up limo dancing.

Is that so? Jamaican limos, I hear, make very good rollerblades.

That said, though, I'd be quite happy to run Jeremy Kyle over with one.
