It shouldnt be the job of the BBC to try and beat ITV head to head.

Why should the BBC always back down when ITV copy their shows?

The BBC sold the format to NBC and Simon Cowell spotted a golden opportunity and basically bought the Grease rights for the UK so he could do a copycat version of the show, just like he copied Pop Idol with The X Factor.

Beceuse its the licence fee payers who lose out if these programes are pitted agaisnt each other. The BBC did the same with putting Fame Acadmy 2 against Pop Idol.

But they were doing this type of show before ITVcopycatted it with Grease.

Yep, but the BBC has formatted these programmes based on the way ITV would (and subsequently have). To be fair though it appears that the two shows won't go directly head to head - though it's inevitable they'll clash at points during the series.

It seems to have gone relatively unnoticed that the BBC schedules are filled with far more "reality TV" than ITV and C4 at the moment - Any Dream will Do, The Apprentice, Castaway and on BBC2 the Underdog Show - which sounds so awful nobody tunes in to bother slagging it off!

Seen bits and piece of this tonight - slightly disturbing how they refer to Lloyd Webber as "The Lord".

This is probably the best thread to mention this in, but the number of conflict of interests between the BBC and the presenters on Radio 1 this afternoon were quite funny

On Vernon's show there were guests Lord Webber and Denise Van Outen talking about Any Dream will do, and how great it is. This was ironic considering Vernon was promoting Gameshow Marathon throughout the show and both the programmes are on at the same time

Then on Coxy's show she had showbiz pal Zoe Ball on the phone talking about Grease is the Word and how it is so great, this was followed a few songs later by a BBC One advert for Match of the Day, which was also on at the same time as Grease!

Can't believe Ben was in the sing-off. I know him and his singing teacher (who btw teaches all her students to wobble madly when they sing)

That poor lad that lost - having his coat stripped away. I swear if I was him I would have run off Very Happy

I bet more people will NOT watch either programme.

John Barrowman certainly got a surprise when this appeared tonight. He was playing the part of Joseph in his younger days.

It was a shock that Chris and Johndeep, were in the bottom two tonight. There will be a double eviction next week.
I caught the last twenty minutes of Grease, and have to say I was totally bored, as was the case during the first ten minutes of the opening show.

have to say i didn't really want to watch either the grease or joseph contest with most of the judges up themselves, however Joseph is sort of winning me over and i think is better out of the two.

It's the judges who are definately letting Grease down - there is just no value of them, so unless they finally find some chemistry in the live shows, they're basically screwed as these things live and die on the judges - not the acts!

Still pisses me off how they refer to Andrew Lloyd Webber as "The Lord" on Joseph. Interestingly on Digital Spy he say's he'll go to America to cast the lead role for Jesus Christ Superstar because he doesn't think he'd be allowed to cast Jesus on the BBC!

I'm incredibly surprised at both of the evictions in Any Dream Will Do so far. Neither of them deserved to go. Has anyone noticed that the people in the bottom two seem to be the skinniest or the least muscular?

The public seems to be voting on looks rather than talent...

But then again, that's understandable, because the target audience will probably be mostly females, who will all be drooling over the potential Josephs.
