As Tony Barton says in that overplayed promo, dream on BBC1! I'll hang around for any special ident (though most of us can't see that happening for an individual series) but then it'll be back through the EPG.

Two words - Connie Fisher. What a farce that turned out to be and any similar competition is bound to have the same result.

And how exactly is Connie a 'farce'? On what reliable source can you base this opinion? The girl performed 8 shows per week for nearly 6 months, something which mo West End leading lady has done for 20 years. She is back on stage and as good as ever, with the added bonus of Aofie Mullholland taking over 2 performances a week.

This clash is unnecessary really. From what I've read, the BBC's Joseph show has been rushed out, it was meant for the summer. There isn't even a venue or an opening date as yet for the new production of Joseph.

Grease however will be opening at the Picadilly Theatre in London's West End in August.

The success of either show will probably be down to scheduling, with Doctor Who being a big plus in the BBC's favour.

If you had actually done your homework you would have found out that Joesph is to open at the Adelphi theatre on 18th July, with previews from 6th July. ALW has closed Evita early so as to make way for this production of Joesph.

The honeymoon period is over certainly - she has been dropping out of shows left right and centre, and now needs a backing tape to reach the right notes! It's clearly too demanding a role for someone with no prior experience and some people will probably have seen this coming.

It shouldnt be the job of the BBC to try and beat ITV head to head.

hardly a farce. the show is sold out until the end of the year on the strength of that show.

And Connie had a two week illness, like many performers do. She rested on doctors orders and is now back to doing 6 shows per week, the norm in the West End.

Ah yes I saw a bit of this earlier. Is there nothing on the BBC now that doesn't involve John Barrowman?

I take it Bill Kenwright didn't want to be reminded of his stint as Betty's ilegitimate son in Corrie. Laughing

That's only because she's been ill. The backing tape will go as soon as she's well enough to hit the notes, and it's normal for a West End star to drop shows because they've got a cold etc.

Actually no!! He continued to appear in the show until the early 200's. When the producers recast the part a few years ago he was livid.

Why should the BBC always back down when ITV copy their shows?

The BBC sold the format to NBC and Simon Cowell spotted a golden opportunity and basically bought the Grease rights for the UK so he could do a copycat version of the show, just like he copied Pop Idol with The X Factor.

Suspect it will be in HD - most of the BBC Saturday Evening entertainment shows from TC1 at TV Centre have been since it switched to HD during the early stages of "How do you solve a problem like Maria?".

BTW - given that the BBC produced "You're The One That I Want" for NBC in the US, after the success of Maria in the UK, does anyone think ITV and Simon Cowell have kind of plumbed new depths in "copy cat" production by doing this for ITV?

Yes - but the BBC only produced it, they didn't have the rights.

Anyhow, "Maria" was a blatant copy cat of shows that have gone before it anyhow - C4 did this sort of thing much better in "Musicality" and "Operatunity" - without exploiting a public phone vote either!

To be honest all of these shows are copying Pop Idol if youy thinkabout it. Which show do people think will do better, ITV's Grease or BBC1's Joseph?

Pop Idol being a copy of Popstars, which was a copy of some of the talent shows in the 70s and 80s.

Beceuse its the licence fee payers who lose out if these programes are pitted agaisnt each other. The BBC did the same with putting Fame Acadmy 2 against Pop Idol.
