This has just gone beyond the joke. The news channel dropped the 6, 5 minutes into it like a lead balloon. Shortly after 6:30 George popped up to interview Mark Thompson. There is absolutely no reason this minor event that has now made us all look like a loony Country needs any more airtime. Jonathon Ross should quit the BBC and go somewhere, where he can continue to do his job in a professional environment. BBC Senior Management has yet again showed its true colour that it is way out of touch with "it's" audience. Just about all of these complaints are purely because the newspapers have advertised it. I have never regarded Mark Thompson very highly and today he has done it again by proving to me he clearly cannot run an organisation this big. Why has the controller of Radio 2 gone? She has reinvented R2 and made it one of the most diverse age range and popular radio stations in this country. I personally think The Mail should be the one apologising for this. If they had not made such a fuss about it Mr. Sach's family would probably not be going through this humiliation.

Well it depends if it's aired on ITV1 this year but no doubt Ross will be cracking dodgy gags about the situation to the audience which wouldn't be the best route I guess. And of course he'll probably appear on Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz of the Year with Jimmy Carr so despite him not being on the BBC, I'm sure he'll be egging his way on other channels. I expect a certain Mr Norton will be given more airtime throughout Christmas though.

No.

But for the actions of Johnathan Ross, Russell Brand and their producer, this wouldn't have happened.

You can't visit what they did on anyone else.

Seconded. All of what you said is spot on. The fact the BBC reacted to this Daily Mail induced media frenzy at all is pathetic!

The most annoying thing about this and the reason why the Digital Spy forums must come with a health warning at the moment is that it seems there are only two opinions allowed, both the most extreme opinions from each viewpoint

Anyone who has a more middle view is automatically dismissed as supporting the opposite extreme view

The DG has handled this badly, he should have suspended them before it became a national campaign.

Jonathan Ross was far worse than Brand in this instance, he did the swearing and he told the listeners that Brand slept with that woman. On the other hand this shows that nobody at the BBC is beyond punishment, even their biggest star. Shocked

No, I don't agree with that. If the BBC has had so many complaints, then they have a duty respond in some way - whether this is the right way is another matter, but they can't simply ignore them all.

I agree with you the BBC has been playing catch up with this and reacting to the newspapers rather than setting the agenda with swift action. I'm worried that we are going into some dodgy freedom of speech territory and that programme makers and performers will be too scared to say anything.

This whole mess started as far as I was concerned because, saying those comments is one thing but leaving the comments on the answer machine was a terrible error of judgement. on the part of Brand and Ross. The producer should take the blame because he spoke to Sachs said it wouldn't be aired and then aired it. Fools!

Now because of this the BBC have the vultures circling again, most people in the media criticising the BBC are rabid BBC haters, and they've just been given ammunition by the Corporation.

It was confirmed a few weeks ago the awards would return to ITV1 this year.
