Emily Maitlis writes in tonight's
Newsnight
daily e-mail:
Fair enough.
I think this shall be difficult for Ross: while being controversial is a huge component of his 'style', the Mail , the Express , Channel 5 News and the other tabloid news services will be scrutinising every second, and then phoning up anyone and everyone who may have been mentioned to try and get them to state how insulted they were and that Ross should be fired. Nevertheless, the recording seems to have gone well enough, and those who were there claim the apology was sincere.
Interestingly, it appears he mentioned Twitter in the programme (he started tweeting himself not so long ago)–as Twitter isn't exactly famed for reliability, what's the betting that it'll have crashed by midnight?

Whatever we tell you about world affairs and financial collapse there will be a nagging curiosity - deny it if you will - about the return to the BBC of Jonathan Ross. So let's cut to the chase and start there briefly.
As I write, they have just finished recording his show. It apparently begins with an apology and ends with a standing ovation. I won't say more now, but tonight we will take a good look at what this whole episode has done to comedy and to the BBC.

I wouldn't say that of you Gavin: You're not letching over a female; nor do you have an inflated ego, nor have you swore gratuitously

I see ITV1 are attempting to climb on the moral high ground with their edition of Tonight, which focuses largely on BBC and Channel 4 programmes.
