I absolutely HATE Graham Norton's format. I often watch chat shows for one or two guests, so when Norton has a big A-lister I have no interest in, and a comedian I like is stuck at the end saying nothing, it's a lot more of a pain to watch. I'd rather do what I do with Chatty Man and record it, then fast forward to the guests I want to watch.
I remember when Ant and Dec were on the show, and they got the prestigious place on the sofa nearest to Graham. But most of the show was spent talking to the guy from Breaking Bad. The Graham Norton Show seems too focused on getting big names than actually getting guests who are fun to watch. Look at when Madonna was on...
It's a shame because I loved Graham's Channel 4 shows, and I like him as a person. But the format of the show is annoying.
I'm not a huge fan of JR, but one of the problems I can see is that the Green Room format doesn't work well. Better to get the guests out on the sofa together (as is the case with Norton etc.) makes for better flow of banter.
