Jonathan Ross: 'Shake-up will keep chat show fresh'
Jonathan Ross believes his chat show's revamp will overturn disappointing ratings.

The previous series of The Jonathan Ross Show saw viewing figures drop below 3 million, with the March 8 finale being watched by 2.7 million.

However, Ross stated that the programme will come back stronger, teasing an upcoming "shake-up" for the next series.

"We'll be shaking up the format of the show in October - that will be the first big shake-up in a while," he told The Sun. "We do it every six years to keep the show fresh.

"So expect a few new surprises - and we're still striving to get top guests. It will be a shorter run this time, so I'll get a little time to rest."

He added: "I'm like a vampire. I keep coming back."

Ross previously told Digital Spy that he was "very happy" at ITV.

"I have no problem with the BBC, but I have no intention of going back there to host shows," he said while addressing rumours that he would front Strictly Come Dancing.

The problem they have is how to make Jonathan Ross listening to people promoting films, albums and other stuff that most people aren't interested in, interesting. I don't think it can be done.

I think it can. It needs to be funnier, I think they should introduce games, a bit like Celeb Juice but not as rude. Maybe the audience should participate too in some features. I just hope they get rid of the awful set. The set needs to reflect Jonathan's personality. Something a bit flamboyant and wacky. It also needs a fixed time slot.

The autumn season is helped following The X Factor. Accelerated flow would definitely help, especially if they could put those adverts into the X Factor.

What? It's only been on the air for a few years and not really had any kind of shake-up? The new set?

I think he's counting the BBC show and the ITV show as just one show.

I'm not a huge fan of JR, but one of the problems I can see is that the Green Room format doesn't work well. Better to get the guests out on the sofa together (as is the case with Norton etc.) makes for better flow of banter.

It really does just come down to guests - this series his guests were below par and hence his ratings were too. Can't comment on much more as I never watch it - the one change I'd make is just make it "The Show".

II honestly don't think it helps that it doesn't have a fixed time on a Saturday night . continually being shifted because of the different length episodes of X Factor etc.

It would be better on either a Thursday night at 1035pm or even Sunday night at 10pm. Best not putting it against Graham Norton as it would have a rating collapse - especially if Chatty Man is also on at same time on Channel 4!

Nothing on a saturday has a fixed time.

I do think "after The X Factor" is fixed enough although it can vary by up to an hour. I do think though it would do better on Sundays - the Adrian Chiles show did well enough there and it would just be a better fit IMO.

I still think there should try and bi weekly type show running at 45mins each with one ad break. Sunday and Wednesday? But it would only be 10 week run twice a year?
