With the new Jonathan Ross Show starting on Saturday I thought I'd set up a thread ready for its launch.

Basically you've got nothing to say about it but find some kind of glory in starting a thread that will no doubt be popularish.

Anyway I will attempt to add some further information.

He was on with Richard Bacon today. Apparently the set is very 'blingy' there will be a 3D back drop of London behind a window behind the desk. 4 Puffs and Piano are gone and there is no house band but the green room stays.

The full interview is on the Daily Bacon podcast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/dailybacon

I had no idea that Wossie had left the BBC!! Is this new show going to be the same chat-show type format?

Well you missed a whole furore, including the infamous antics of he and Russell Brand leaving puerile messages on the answer machine of Andrew Sachs (from Fawlty Towers).

Not his best hour.

I watched some of yesterday's interview. Although the topic of his "worth" had to be covered, the answers - while honest on his part and relatively true of the industry - probably didn't do much to raise opinion of him.

Nobody (in times of recession, or otherwise) wants to hear a millionaire say they're worth all that money.

That's my view. Others may well feel differently.

No. A wock!

Knew about the Andrew Sachs furore, but still had no idea he had left the BBC. I have never much liked the guy anyway. Prefer O'Grady or Carr.

Sounds like another Letterman-style set, he's had similar sets a few times in the past (as did Danny Baker on his chat show - both are Letterman influenced)

Ross has tried to emulate Letterman ever since his first chat show, 'The Last Resort' over 25 years ago.

Never actually managed it in my opinion.

Of all the chat shows that he should emulate, I think Craig Ferguson's show on CBS would be the best one. Letterman's formula I think has become dated. It's too formal. In this day and age, the way Craig Ferguson talks to a guest is a hell of a lot better I think.

Whilst we are on the subject of chatshows, what's the deal with Ruth Jones' seasonal specials on BBC 2? She did a Christmas, Easter and the other week there was a Summer one.

If they think they're good, why not give her own show, if not why give her these specials.

Me and another member of TVF certainly concur. When I grow up I want to be Craig Ferguson.... y'know, without the alcoholism....

I'm assuming that they commissioned a series of specials - maybe three, maybe four - to run throughout the year, maybe because she's too busy with her other stuff to commit to a whole series in one go. I guess it also makes the holiday season seem a bit more special, but they're not very good, to be honest, there are too many shows like this with three guests and a band, and all the usual suspects turn up on it. Stephen Mangan ended up talking about Episodes on the most recent one, which is six months old. I don't really see the point.

Anyway, I'm not holding out much hope for Ross, especially if they're keeping the green room. Why not just have the guests all on the set at once if they're going to do it like that, especially if they have to squeeze past a load of anonymous hangers on to get out of it. And Ross is a hopeless interviewer, I don't mean in the Parky sense of not asking serious questions, but because if he doesn't care about the guest he simply can't think of anything to ask them, so when David Mitchell was on, Ross had clearly only read the Guardian piece which talked about how his house was quite modest and so just kept on saying "Have you got a telly? Have you got a computer? Have you got an iPod?", and when Sean Lock was on the same show as Kylie, all his questions were just "Have you met Kylie? Isn't Kylie sexy? What do you think of Kylie? What's your favourite Kylie song?" He just takes guests down conversational cul-de-sacs that makes everyone look stupid. He's such a crap interviewer.
