Many say that the BBC had Norton lined up for Friday Nights (which makes sense, as hes a far more entertaining personality) and Kermode was offered the job of Film 2010/2011 prior to Christmas. I'd say he jumped before he was pushed.

Ross kind of a victim of his own price tag - he was never worth being the highest paid presenter at the BBC (and I think for a time, in the UK) considering all he did was an average chat show, a late-night film show and a once a week radio show.

Let's just hope the rumours of a US deal are true and he's about to bugger off. Sky might be a possibility too, and unlike many presenters it would actually be a good deal for him and give him the chance to re-establish himself away from the bigger channels.

I think his Friday Night show has had it's day anyway. Some may say he's been trying to make it (even) more like Letterman in recent months (adding gimmicks) and failed miserably. It's the wrong platform and he's a big kid and now wants to play elsewhere.

I notice The Big Fat Quiz of the Year is produced by Hot Sauce, so perhaps he may go back to Channel 4 if anywhere.

No, just the one on a Friday night, blowing his own trumpet.

His salary, a reported £18 million over three years,

No, AIUI his production company 'Hot Sauce' ? was paid 18 million over 3 years to produce his crappy shows, not all of the money went to him, most was to pay staff and pay production costs ?

Yes, his 'salary' was a production cost and paid for the 3 programmes he presented on the BBC - studio and facilities hire, staff and everything else that it costs to make radio and TV.

So most of what they'll save through not paying him x million next year will be spent on replacing the 4 and a half hours a week of airtime that Hot Sauce is no longer providing

I don't think he'll stick to a broadcaster, part of his issue with the beeb is undoubtedly the amount of interfering in his programmes over the last year. He'll want to be a free agent and I'm sure the offers have been pouring in all day. It wouldn't surprise me if he pops up on something like Absolute Radio (his saturday morning show effectively started there)

I think it's obvious Graham Norton will move to Ross's slot.

Jonathan Ross was, let's say, an acquired taste. But the man has a talent, in that he holds a rapport with his audience, he has the ability to be genuine as well as silly, his enthusiasm and knowledge of the movie world is top notch, and I've never found him to be deliberately offensive. In my opinion the radio show debacle blame should have been laid on a lot more shoulders than Brand and Ross, but they are the pariahs of that particular sector of society that the BBC seems intent on reacting to lately. I've never found his show tired, boring or otherwise, and is a perfect way to come in from the pub on a Friday. I don't really care what my license fee is spent on, so long as it's spent on giving me uninterrupted TV with no adverts. You can't put a price on that. If Mr J Ross is part of that, then so be it.

As a footnote, how many celebrites would, when faced with an entire press corps camped on their front lawn, bring them a cup of tea?
