Surely to god it can't be something as petty as it having 'English' in the title.

well the scottish are rather insecure about their nationality aren't they. i guess showing johnny english on burns night was considered too much
We're not insecure you sauce bottle.
The reason they aren't showing it is that I've already seen it on DVD, and they like to do my bidding.

Maybe I could understand that if they'd changed it for a night of caber tossing, haggis flinging and scottish country dancing hosted by Jimmy Krankie, but "What Lies Beneath" ?

Any reason why Johnny English isn't being shown in Scotland? We have 'What Lies Beneath' instead.

Looks like scheduling convenience (although I like the idea of it being because the word 'English' is in the title
).
Here's how it looks as I see it (although it's so convoluted I hope this isn't the reason)
As a rule, SMG doesn't show Carling Cup highlights. They are therefore left with a gap of an hour. What Lies Beneath lasts 40 minutes longer than Johnny English. Beyond that, because Quizmania takes up half the overnight schedule, they've had to shunt their regional repeats forward. So Weir's Way appears at 12am. The double bill there takes them straight through to 12.45am, when they rejoin the network feed.
It seems very, very unlikely - why would SMG replace a very recent film with a relatively old repeat for this alone? Surely they could have found some other programmes to fill to replace the Carling Cup Highlights, instead of destroying their peaktime schedule. But why else would they do it? Don't they have to pay for everything on the network feed, whether they show it or not? If that's the case, they're not saving any money.
Alternatively, What Lies Beneath, from the description given here, looks more of a chick flick than Johnny English. There's football on BBC1 Scotland.
Oh God knows - anyone got an e-mail address for SMG?

It's not something as simple as What Lies Beneath wasn't shown when it was on the rest of the network and if they don't show it now the rights will expire?
PC
Possible. And the rights for Johnny English may expire at a later date.
However it's not a good idea in general - any cross-promotion from ITV2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and so forth is useless, promotion in terms of TV mags will be incorrect, and so on.
Mind you, this sort of thing used to happen a lot more often. Lest we forget the days when the 7pm show (normally Emmerdale) was ditched in favour of random Scottish programmes (almost sensible with High Road, insane with Scottish Action).
