Johnny Briggs puts the boot into EastEnders

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably been posted before but not seen it.

One of Coronation Street's biggest stars has put the boot in ailing EastEnders by declaring Emmerdale as the ITV soap's closest rival.

Actor Johnny Briggs, 69, who has played Mike Baldwin since 1976, said: "I flicked on to Emmerdale and it was excellent. I see it as a rival to Coronation Street - bigger than EastEnders. For quality, the Street and Emmerdale are on one level - then there's EastEnders."

The BBC soap this month suffered the second lowest viewing figures in its history and was recently trounced by Emmerdale, which this week marks 4,000 shows.

An hour-long ITV1 special drew 9.1 million viewers - nearly three million more than EastEnders. Corrie regularly tops 12 million.

can't you keep all your EastEnders stuff in one thread, especially as it's not really presentation related?

I agree, there are 4 or 5 different EastEnders threads on the 1st 2 pages - the Corrie thread manages to run quite nicely as one thread (most of the time). The place is just getting cluttered with too many similar threads - any chance of a spring clean?

Well some of us don't like trawling through endless threads looking for decent information. If this thread hadn't been setup, I wouldn't have seen the above information.

So just shut up, you fussy gits Evil or Very Mad

What a polite person you are.

By creating a new thread at the drop of a hat, with teeny bits of information dripped every time, it keeps pushing all the other threads back further and further - there are now 2 Peter Kay Amerillo threads for example and too many variations of "BBC1 Idents / polls" to mention. This makes it harder to find different topic areas to add updates too. If all latest Eastenders news were in one place, then you would know where to look. I hardly think that a Corrie Actor slagging off a rival soap really justifies a new thread, really?

There's no need to tell people to "Shut up" - just respect other's views please.

No it doesn't, it regularly gets between 10 and 11 million, rarely 12 million. Corrie gets between 11 and 12 million, and on the odd Monday, even 13 million.

DIdnt that actor from Burn it on BBC Three and that movie from last year (feature the 'real' sex scene) star as Johnny Briggs?

Of the last ten editions I have figures for, six had figures over 12 million. In any case, the difference is usually less than one million; the article quoted seemed to be trying to suggest that the figures were 6m for EastEnders and at least 12m for Coronation Street.
