A brilliant presenter - very sad day.

Is there any boy from the 1970s that didn't want to be John Noakes when they grew up?

Agreed that he was a brilliant presenter, even though he was already 31 when he started in 1966!

Is anyone on Kid's TV over 30 these days?

Yes, Barney Harwood is 37!

I'm delighted this is the top story on the Newsround website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/40070850

And I don't doubt Blue Peter itself will do this news justice on the programme.

Richard Marson got a bollicking from 'them up stairs" for doing a Caron Keating tribute.

That's not right, as he explains in his book. He says they told the Head of CBBC they were going to do it, but she wondered if it was relevant and if the audience would know who she was. But he doesn't say she told them not to do it, or that she complained when they did.

Given it's the top story on the Newsround website, I find it highly unlikely anyone will be issuing "bollockings".

Just to illustrate how Blue Peter remains such a special show, something John did more than most to cultivate, it's been very nice to see the Blue Peter family paying tribute today...

This is a very sad loss. I am far too young to have watched Noakes when he was on Blue Peter, but I have seen many clips of him and he was really good. I saw him on Channel 5's 'When Kids TV Goes Horribly Wrong' yesterday and was a true professional when there was a fire when Brownies were singing.

It would be nice for one of the BBC channels to air an old Blue Peter, or Go with Noakes. I'm going to assume there will be some sort of tribute to him on this week's Blue Peter.

The majority of kids TV presenters are over 30.

The oldest are probably Dave Lamb (Gory Games) and Susan Calman (Top Class), who are 48 & 42.

Gosh all I was trying to point out was that there were issues between the BP editorial team and the head of BBC Children's. This of course got much worst.

And Justin Fletcher who presents most things on Cbeebies is 47 next month, Chris Jarvis is also 47 and Pui Fran Lee 45. Sydney Sloane who is 50 next week and still on Cbeebies (though his latest series was made last year I think)

Although the oldest must be Bernard Cribbins, he presents on Cbeebies and he's 88!

Incidently I saw a headline display thing in a shop earlier supposedly sourced from the BBC that said John Noakes was the longest serving Blue Peter presenter. No idea where they got that from

Noakes is the longest serving Blue Peter presenter, 12 years and 178 days.
