Apologies if anybody's already mentioned this, or if I'm just the last person to notice, but BBC One has for the past couple of nights broadcast the Joe & Petunia: Coastguard public information film which according to TVArk dates from 1968! It's been cleverly updated - Petunia has a copy of Hello!, Joe has a mobile phone instead of running to a phone box, the Coastguard has a load of computer equipment in his office, and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency's URL has been added to the final freeze-frame.

As a Devonian, can I just add that it's nice to see television's most accurate ever portrayal of 'grockles' back on our screens! Wink

Yep, it was done up for the 60th anniversary of COI (the company in charge of producing PIFs in Britain) and has been shown on various channels for around three months now. Nice to see the updates to it!

It seems that ITV1 have been showing PIF's at 15:00 each day since the world cup now.

There seems to be quite a few that have been updated but the most funniest one is the Joe and Petunia with Joe now sporting some Burberry headwear!

I've said this before but I'm suspicious as to why Petunia's Union Jack bag in the original has been replaced by a non-patriotic holdall in the new version. PC prats at work?

Why is he wearing a chav cap, when he is quite clearly not a chav?

There are very few ads being scheduled in Everwood at the moment, coupled with the fact that it's got a very short running time for an hour slot means you'll often see a few PIFs between 2 and 3.

On the subject of un-patriotism, remind me which forum member changed his signature to a Swedish flag during the World Cup.

There's quite a few of those old PIF's that could easily have updated remakes made. Some that spring to mind here . . .

Arrow The creepy one were (off camera) some kid gets run over by a train, and a friend appears visibly shocked.
Arrow The one with a kid running on a beach, and it freeze frames just before he steps on a broken glass bottle.
Arrow Play Safe ... "Kites and Planes" and "Frisbee" ... and various other safety related ones.

Are there any other PIF's you think could be updated and remade for a 21st century audience?
