The legend that was Joan Rivers has passed away after suffering cardiac arrest whilst undergoing an operation on her throat a week ago.

Taking absolutely nothing away from Robin Williams or Mike Smith but no one said such a thing when both of them sadly passed and their deaths were reported here. Please try and be respectful for this woman as some people on here may well be fans of hers and instead of bringing even more negativity to this you could have remained silent.

Agreed Declan...

Joan was a ground breaker in terms of her stand up but also her television hosting. She is still the only woman to have hosted network late night, and her relationship with television makes quite an interesting story, particularly around the launch of Fox, and she pioneered the style in which celebrities endorsed products on shopping channels.

A true pioneer in television, so I believe her passing is far more worthy a thread than some of the nonsense that gets posted on here sometimes.

I found Joan Rivers absolutely hilarious, and had actually had tickets to see her stand up show in Glasgow on the 22nd of October. I did know she had a nightly talk show, but didn't release it went up against Johnny Carson, and apparently they never spoke again because of it.

The likes of Joan Rivers most probably won't be seen again.

Not only that but she was blacklisted by NBC late night and NBC prime time for a long time. The prime time ban was lifted a few years back when she took part in and won Celebrity Apprentice.

The Tonight Show ban was kept after Carson left, at Jay Leno's request. It was only lifted several months ago when she appeared on Jimmy Fallon's first Tonight Show, to her honour and delight.

Joan's amazing documentary that aired on HBO a couple of years ago is simply fascinating. Joan was very few comics who literally could say anything, her and Don Rickles, because of their age, and "get away" with it. There will never be another like her.

I'll just place this here... It's what she would have wanted...

Funniest thing ever. Plus it just goes show why live (non-news) programs should be on a slight delay. Amazing that even happened. Joan just being Joan.

On the contrary, it shows why TV should be properly live!

Quite so !!!! The day our TV becomes as sanitised and sterile as most US light entertainment shows, is the day to pack up the telly, and find something else for the corner of the room.
