You really think that your money is being well spent when 3 BBC channels are providing exactly the same service??
I'm sorry but that strikes me as rather odd!
Where you getting 3 network services from? News24...BBC One/Two, and surely BBC World can't be counted because it's not funded by us lot!

I like what Kay did on Sky News today. Just before fading out (eventually....) at 4.30, she said something like 'Henman poised to take the fifth set. Fingers crossed' and crossed her fingers to camera! A perfect way to round off the bulletin into the ads.

Cheers, Asa

Yes you're right, but they do of course draw on the BBC's resources.
For example, News 24 had to wait for the Moscow bloke because he was being interviewed on BBC World, so indirectly it does have an effect.
And of course there is radio!

In the future I recon all of the channels will go a similar way to Sky.
By this I mean, a channel for entertainment, News, sports, repeats etc etc.
I am surprised we haven't yet seen a Sky 1+1, or would that be a little confusing!!??

And Asa, how about this for the end of the 3pm shift, the funniest bit of banter I have seen for a long long time::

Now, they had just faded out of a report with supermodels wandering up and down a catwalk and Kay is commenting on how thin they are....

(Just uploading the file now, will be up shortly, check back in 5 mins)

Also, does anyone have the audio link for BBC World?
I know you had it up on TV Home Asa on the front page, but obviously that has now gone.... anyone?

Must remember to put that in a TV Home FAQ!

Also, I think there is a question of tradition in this argument. BBC ONE has had News Reports for years and years. Why change now? Many people do not even know of News 24. Why should they be subject to two new presenters, studio etc., when they can have a more well known person such as Anna Ford or Huw Edwards.

Also, a News Report interupts a programme. You'd never be able to opt to News 24, as it would go on for ages, when the BBC want to return to scheduled programming.

Let me add my point of view! I agree that News Reports presented by a familiar face are a good thing and I think this is also the view of the BBC. But I appreciate that it is a waste of money having two networks doing this but N6 is virtually ready for action anyway and all the production teams are ready.

Also, during the Concorde crash there was a News Report on BBC Two at 4.30 (15 minutes after the news broke?) with Michael Buerk talking to correspondents in Paris which of course meant News24 couldn't talk to them. Buerk then did a News Report on BBC One for ten minutes in place of Newsround at 5pm (first time I think this has happened) and then at 5.35pm they broadcast the News24 special. Why couldn't News24 have gone to join Michael Buerk for the 5pm News Report - would have rounded up the news - which often gets forgotten in breaking news - and meant they could have had all the correspodents giving the updates.

Well - that's how I'd have done it - sorry I went on so long!!!!
