It will be interesting to see Tonight with Trevor McDonald err.... tonight ! They are showing a full dramatised reconstruction of the incident and the court case, now that must have been prepared well in advance !

Oh cool thanks for bringing the programme to my attention, I'll tune in now Smile

Personally, thought the BBC programme was very good, well balanced and BBC journalism at its best. Pity it wasn't on at 9pm or something as it would have had more of an audience.

I remember the six O'clock news on the day of the murder, the story at the time was that she was stabbed and when they were interviewing the policeman in charge (DCI Campbell?), he said 'this shooting.. er.. stabbing' and Marytin Lewis looked confused but didn't press him on it.

I also remember when the story broke, I heard it first on 5 Live and the presenter was almost treating it as not being very important, like 'we've just had a bit of odd news in, Jill Dando has been stabbed outside her home' and then went on to interview a boxer or someone. Sky News picked up on it shortly afterwards, meanwhile BBC ONE was in the start of the regional news after the 1 O'clock and that was followed by a News Report with Jennie Bond.

Yes, apparently on the day of the murder, the BBC was getting intital reports through throughout the One O'Clock News but it was decided not to broadcast these because it was not confirmed. They only got confirmation during the regional news and then, as you say, they went to a news report.
