TBH I think whatever replaced Kyle would have an uphill struggle and I think there would be a worry that it could have a knock on effect on the rest of the daytime lineup. I'd like to see a medical series in the vein of Dr Phil or Dr Oz in that slot, it's the only American style show that ITV hasn't ever tried for daytime.

It's interesting that Judge Rinder doesn't face the same sort of scrutiny but I guess that's more toned down compared to Kyle.

Rinder is made by the same team that make Jeremy Kyle. If you look at credits of both shows various Producers and other production team members have worked across both shows. Luckily for Rinder, the issues seen on the show aren't things that would usually require as much aftercare. Jeremy Kyle show on the other hand...

I think the show sticks out like a sore thumb on a channel that no longer has any other shows like it (Rinder really doesn’t skirt near the sort of issues Kyle approaches). I can’t see such a toxic brand returning, especially in an era of them trying to make the channel more upmarket.

The problem they have now if it doesn’t come back is they’ve lost a very cheap, probably very profitable show that was also their highest rated by about 100k and it won’t be easy to replace. A more glaring issue is they would also lose hundreds of hours of quota-filling out of London production.

I can see the headlines now

“ITV CRISIS: Viewers SWITCH OFF new Jeremy Kyle replacement” with stories made up of tweets sent about 9:26am on the morning of the first permanent replacement.
IS
Inspector Sands
The Daily Mails article on the victim: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7025005/Pictured-Grandfather-62-killed-week-humiliated-Jeremy-Kyle.html
I know its the Mail but it goes into a lot more detail about what happened

Depending on ITV's feelings about keeping him on the channel, they may bring back Emergency Room that he presented. Or maybe a current affairs type programme for him to host, could be similar to O'Brien which was short-lived.

If the Mail article is accurate, I can't see the show morally making a return. The lie detectors are one of the trademark features of the show, and to think they can result in such a tragedy is beyond unsettling.

I think we all know it won’t return, they wouldn’t have done such a comprehensive job of removing it (the 5am repeat, the ITV Hub old episodes) otherwise. They won’t say as much yet though.

I doubt we will be seeing Kyle on any of his other ITV gigs either (GMB has a long list of stand in presenters, The Kyle Files never rates that well and has probably run its course)

If we take the story that has emerged at face value, I think there is the possibility that ITV could face criminal proceedings.

In my view producers have created an atmosphere where particpants can be humilated, jeered and bullied by the presenter and the audience, in a way that wouldn't be accepted in any other walk of life. Some people must find that trumatic. So what appears to have happened doesn't come as a surprise and it's difficult to see how it could get past this and could you imagine ITV taking the risk of it happening a second time?

So I think Jeremy Kyle in this format is over. Although I think perhaps Hartley-Brewer or Iain Lee might be worried right now. A daily show on either talkRadio or Virgin would seem a likely next step. That's only if even News UK don't want dissociate themselves with him.

I agree with Andrew that it's unlikely Kyle will have any further projects on ITV, other projects exist as sweetener but without his chat show their is no 'Jeremy Kyle' brand.

Does Kyle enjoy talking about politics much? He would have to do Hartley Bewer's. show in it's current format.7
If Hartley Bewer does get pushed off people on here have suggested her for GMB - she would certainly be a female Piers.

I've no idea. I don't read his column or listen to his radio show, which I'm not sure if he's still doing it as I can't see him in talkRadio schedule.

Of course what we now know as the Jeremy Kyle show has its roots in radio. Kyle popped up on BRMB about twenty years or so ago and did the Late & Live segment where people phone in and pour their heart out over the airwaves, he later took this format around various other radio networks (including what was then Virgin Radio) before it ended up on ITV, though I believe the radio format continued to air alongside the the TV show for a year or two in the London area.

Yes, he was Capital FM at the time the TV show started. He's also done a few bits here and there since.
